Doctor Who S1E6 DALEK PATREON VERSION

also for me it was a holy shit moment because i had only heard about daleks untill i watched one old who episode (spoilers) and a dalek flew up a flight of stairs for the first time, its was just as awesome!

It’s one thing giving a dalek emotions, but it’s a complete separate ballgame when it’s suicidal lol

What I like about the reboot is it pays homage and love to the original whilst advancing the ideas further. The idea of humanising a Dalek by literally having their dna develop so they no longer are one means we get a totally new take on a Dalek that still stands as a love letter to their history and character

I like Bobby Fish… but he’s got this fish gimmick

Yeah, this was a fantastic episode for us old fans, and really showed what Daleks could do. They actually showed a levitating Dalek in one of the last Classic Who episodes, but it was only big fans who were watching the show then before it 'rested'. Daleks have always looked like that inside, though we don't see it very often. Daleks hate anything that's not a Dalek. So when it realised that it was no longer a Dalek anymore as it had emotion, it hated itself and so begged to die.

That whimsical intro gets me every time, it’s fantastic 😉

Pepperpot is how they usually get described, but yeah, they're iconic, both within the show and the wider British psyche. Everyone here will know what one is, even if they've never watched the show. Interestingly (at least to Whovian nerds like me) this version of the Dalek is slightly shorter than the Classic ones, so that it's eye stalk lined up perfectly with Billie Piper's eyeline.

Fun fact, this episode was adapted from a Doctor Who audio drama from 2003 called Jubilee!

Literally my thoughts 😂

I haven't commented on these yet, because mainly I don't won't to accidently spoil anything, but I will say in regard to this episode, don't you think Van Stanton is Elon before Elon was Elon? I can just imagine him doing something like this. lol.

So you would be right in that there was some subversion in the episode, but mostly in the sense that all these things were in the classic series (notably the elevate bit), but pop-culture didnt get the memo and it became kind of a jab against them, so the episode was intentionally written to cover all the factors people mocked and showcase the Daleks power.
