Bill has some historic accuracy. Mainly the political background with Philip trying to assassinate the Queen (and the armada). He really did try multiple times because he wanted England to be his and to be catholic again (he was married to the previous Queen - Mary - who’s Elisabeth I’s half-sister). Also history knows a few things about William which are in here. We know he was married and had kids and we know he went to London and became a famous playwright. What history doesn’t know is how he got to that point so Ben and Larry made this story up. Their character Bill also starts to speak more and more with actual Shakespeare quotes/lines as the movie progresses. And they had some issues with the financing of this movie I believe (if I remember correctly from a podcast with Ben I listened to some time ago). British comedy films are hard to get going so that’s probably why this is the only one. Though it must be said that Simon co-wrote some big movies with other people, including “Paddington 1+2” and “Wonka”. Also, did you spot the two major British actors making a cameo in this? Damian Lewis as Sir Richard Hawkins and Helen McCrory as Elisabeth I
