Let Justice Be Done Ch. 91
Added 2021-12-01 10:30:14 +0000 UTCHe was walking on a bridge at night.
Stars were bright and visible, the sky was slowly growing brighter as day approached.
Day was coming.
He saw a small figure on the bridge.
He saw Raguel/Himself looking toward him with kindness and concern.
And he...didn't feel fearful, just curious--
===x===
Raguel's eyes snapped opened. He felt alert with adrenaline pumping through his veins.
He focused his senses to see if there was anything wrong, yet nothing seemed out of place so far. His wife was peacefully sleeping next to him.
A few seconds later, a cry was let out from the crib next to their bed. With a smooth movement so as not to disturb the blankets, Raguel got up and went to his son's bed.
"Shhh, shhh, there, there, Lanny, daddy's here. It's okay, bud. It's just a bad dream." Raguel carefully carried his son into his arms, as he looked into the Psychic Sea and frowned.
He was beginning to understand that the Psychic Sea also functioned as the Dream World in a sense, thus while dreams can be formed in it, it can also influence the forms dreams take.
Calling on his Holy Light, Raguel waved his hands banishing the apparitions of nightmares from around Lancelot.
The baby of course kept crying as he still felt afraid, and Viviane woke up.
"Dear," it took her a moment to get her baring, before blinking and focusing on the image of her husband holding their child close and protectively. She smile as she watched Raguel trying to calm down Lancelot with some success. "How is it that you always wake up before I do? You even notice before he starts crying."
"Don't know." Raguel slowly rocked the boy in his arm, hoping to calm him down, and eventually lull him to sleep once more. "At least when I'm asleep. When I'm awake, with my eyes, I can see his emotions, so I catch it early."
Viviane smile widened as she rested her head on her hand. "I didn't think you would be the worrywart that would spoiling him."
"Spoiling?" Raguel raised an eyebrow.
"The moment he feels even the slightest bit of discomfort, you are there by his side. If you keep this up, his heart will be too soft growing up." Viviane said.
"..." Raguel's expression was blank at he looked down to Lancelot, who stopped crying, and slowly started looking up to his father with a curious look.
Raguel held a finger in front of Lancelot, which the baby grabbed, and laughed with joyous cheer at his accomplishment.
"I don't wanna mess up."
"Hmm."
"This. I don't want to mess up with him." Raguel looked up to meet Viviane's gaze. His expression was open and so vulnerable. The fear and worry completely visible on his face. "I want him to grow up knowing that I'm there for him. That he won't ever face loneliness while I'm around." He looked down, giving a small smile, his eyes feeling a bit moist. Lancelot laughed back in return.
Viviane went to his side, hugged him from behind, and kissed his cheek. Raguel couldn't help but smile, feeling his worries might be overblown. Maybe.
"I don't want him to get hurt either, but he can't afford to grow up weak. We live in a dangerous world, be it the Fae Realm or the human one. If we cuddle him too much, he'll inevitably be harmed when he ventures out on his own." Viviane spoke, yet Raguel could feel her own hesitance at letting her baby venture on his own.
"Would you let him play outside the house, once he can walk?"
"No." Came Viviane's instant refusal. "We live underwater if you've forgotten."
"Do you think that maybe we shouldn't be living at the bottom of a lake?" Raguel said with a cheeky grin.
Viviane pouted and pinched his shoulder, before hugging him once more.
"Here, let me."
"Hmm?"
Viviane moved to take the baby, which Raguel let her do carefully handing Lancelot over. Then Viviane started lowering the top of her dress.
Raguel raised an eyebrow.
"He's hungry." She said plainly.
"How do you kn--"
Lancelot started to cry, before his mother presented her tit for him to suck on.
Raguel saw that in his emotions he actually was hungry. He looked up to Viviane, surprised.
"You're not the only one with magic senses you know." She smirked, and went to sit on the bed, with Raguel going to sit beside her. He just quietly watched as his baby sucked his meal. "I have another one free if you want." Viviane said with a cheeky smile.
"I'm fine." Raguel said back with a chuckle, as he rolled his eyes, and just sat next to his wife and child, just taking in their presence.
"What is it that scares you about him?" Viviane asked.
"I already told you--"
"No, I mean, why do you feel like you have to be at his side for everything?"
"What? You heard Raphael. Father is giving me time off duty to be by Lanny's side. So that's what I'm doing."
"Raguel," Viviane gave her husband a pointed look. "You know what I mean."
Raguel looked away, reminiscing while trying to form his worries into coherent words.
"I failed my son." He said. "In my past life. As he grew up I...didn't know when I should intervene. When I should help and when I shouldn't. Part of the reason I think I failed to connect with him later was just because...he probably felt he couldn't depend on me." Raguel looked down. "I...don't want to be a failure again."
Viviane used her free hand to grab Raguel's hand, and interlock their fingers.
"You're not a failure."
"I--"
"You may have failed but it doesn't make you a failure. You never were in my eyes. That worry and sorrow you feel? That means you didn't give up wanting to improve, thus you're not a failure." She looked down at her son who finished sucking, and held him to her shoulder to help her burp. Her clothes magically fixing themselves. "And I'm not gonna let you fall into guilt. Lancelot isn't the only one who's not alone, you're not alone either."
"Vivi..." He looked into her eyes, feeling the love he held for her blossom once more, not diminishing in the least.
Viviane stared back feeling the same, as they both experienced each other's love through their bond.
"Burp."
And the moment was cut by Lancelot.
Raguel and Viviane found themselves laughing at the timing.
Lancelot looked at his parents, starting to seem too excitable, yet it was nighttime, and they should all go to sleep.
A song came to Raguel's mind.
What was it? Something something December? How did it go again? What was the cartoon movie called--Anastasia! Huh, winter country, winter story. Maybe it's a sign. What were the words? It was, hmm...ah fuck it.
Raguel started to hum. Viviane raised an eyebrow, but smiled and rested her head on her husband's shoulder. Lancelot listened intently, and soon the sound of his father's humming sent him to sleep.
Glancing to his right, Raguel noticed his wing was white.
It may have been one moment in time that would soon pass.
But for just that little while, for that one moment, Raguel and Viviane's lives were perfect for they had their little slice of heaven on earth.
