Let Justice Be Done Ch. 64

"Excuse me, do you need help carrying the water from this pond?" Raguel asked a fae who looked like an old lady.

"Oh, you're too kind, dearie." The fae crone internally chuckled in amusement at seeing another fool trying to steal her jar. "It's a bit heavy, but if you want to carry it for me, I won't stop you."

It was the only object that can  pick up the Pure Water from the Cold Clear Spring, thus coveted very much.

Many people, fae or others alike, would try to collect, pick up, or even straight up drink the Pure Water from spring, but its enchanted property prevented that, the jar she hoarded became the main target of would be thieves.

It was water most desired for all the magical properties it had, and its uses in potions and crafting. It could serve as the perfect detox and antidote if served properly.

The jar itself was heavy due to carrying a lake's worth of Pure Water. And the more someone tried to move away from the fae crone the heavier it got, and the hotter and more acidic the jar became to the touch.

"No problem." Raguel said back with a smile. He crouched down pull up the jar,  struggled for a bit.

The fae crone smiled behind his back. "Problems, dear? Honestly, kids nowadays are so soft. You need to eat more."

"No, no, it's okay. Just give me a moment." Holy Light filled up Raguel's body, making the fae crone blink in momentary surprise, realizing the child wasn' human or fae, but an angel. Then with his renewed strength, Raguel carried the jar, holding it to his chest. "Alright, where to?"

"Oh, it's not that far." The fae crone recovered quickly, looking for this potential thief's next trick. Although she didn't wonder how an angel can be a thief. Isn't that against their virtues, or beings, or something?

Regardless the fae crone just lead the angel to her home, waiting for his move, so she can laugh and punish him.

The fae crone waited and waited and waited...

They were nearing her house now.

And waited.

Her house was in sight.

And waited.

They reached the front door.

She was still waiting. Surely the angel would make his move now.

The fae crone opened the door to her house, and pointed at where to place the jar. "Just put it there, sweetie."

"Alright, there." Raguel placed down the jar, then turned to leave. "I'm glad I could help. Have a good day, granny."

"W-Wait," the fae crone said, making Raguel stop and look at her curiously. "Is...Is that it? You're...just leaving now?"

"Well, yeah. Did you need something else?" Raguel asked, smiling pleasantly.

So...he's not trying to steal from me. Maybe a reward? That's likely what it is.

"Do you not want a reward for your service?" She asked.

"Why would I?" Raguel laughed. "And it's not a service. I just helped out because I felt like it. Don't worry, you don't need to feel obliged to me. I just did this on a whim."

"I see, um, I am...grateful." She said, surprised that even according to the fae magic a debt wasn't incurred, yet still felt odd on this situation. "Do you...want to help me out next week too?" Taking advantage of this is just good sense, right?

Yet something given for free, either they are conditions to it I can't see, or it's not gonna last.

"Well, I'm going to be around in the Snow World till my meeting with the Winter Queen. But till then sure." Raguel said with a shrug.

And there's the part about it not lasting.

"I see. Are all angels...like you?" She asked, somewhat politely.

"You can say idiot if you want, I won't be offended." Raguel chuckled.

"Are all angels idiots like you?" The fae crone grinned, to which Raguel just laughed, in good natured humor.

"I can't say we're all the same but we're suppose to be virtuous, meant to serve as an example for mankind. And that means doing good deeds for the sake of doing good." He said back. "I saw you and thought I might as well help while I'm around. I'll see you around next week, granny." Raguel waved and left.

"Sure, see you later, child."

That was...kind of pleasant.

"You should be careful, these snow spirits are...a bit wild." Said the Winter Fae.

"You mean they cause avalanches? Well, good thing I can fly." Raguel said back with a grin. "Don't worry, I won't get in your way. I'll copy what you do."

"...Doing all of that just to help? Fine, but I'm not responsible for any harm that befalls you." Said the Fae Spirit Tamer.

"I'm grateful for your warning," his wide pure smile caused the fae to noticeably blush, given her pale blue skin. "Come on, let's go catch these feral snow spirits."

"Hmph, fine, follow me."

"Here you go, mister." Raguel said giving the bag to the Fae.

"Oh this is...the change is more than it should be." Said the rich fae, having expected the angel to take some of the gold to himself after doing the shopping, and thus be cursed by it.

The rich fae was one who made some of the best desserts in the Snow World, but he didn't like leaving his house, so he would try to corner customers, or travelers to do his shopping for him.

Having the angel just show up and offer to do his shopping for him out of nowhere was a bizarre surprise, but a welcome one.

"Yeah, I haggled with the merchant a bit, because he definitely was cheating on the eggs."

"I KNEW IT!"

Lady Meave stared from the balcony, of the antechamber connected to the throne, at the realm below.

Due to her power and station she could observe any part of the Snow World, whenever she wanted or needed.

For the past few days, Queen Mab was annoyed about something, although she couldn't tell why.

It was something that frightened and worried the castle servants, sans Lady Maeve, as unlike the Summer Queen, Queen Mab was more orderly and methodical when she decided to act.

However, Lady Maeve understood that was a trap for the less observant, as giving people a pattern then deviating from it, was just one of the small bits of fun, the elder Winter Fae would employ, to trick or corner people in their own schemes.

Lady Maeve was told by Queen Mab to check on her appointed guests on a whim, with a surprisingly kind tone, and as the Ice Princess, as she was sometimes dubbed, did that, Meave found herself taken aback.

She tilted her head, and raised an eyebrow as she watched the Archangel Raguel going about his daily routine, of just going to multiple different cities, talking to multiple fae and helping them...with no cost.

Just doing good for goodness sake, as he told one fae.

Sure some fae would grant him some gifts in turn, but Raguel always made sure, they never felt obliged to him, and even outright would put himself in their debt only for them to free him immediately, as they don't want to feel beholden to him--even if they aren't in a magical sense--but this in turn would ease their worry.

However, it was the effects of his acts that was worrying. The fae Raguel regularly interacted with, they started...being kind to others in turn, without asking for anything themselves.

Not always, and not in great acts like Raguel does, but just a small help there; for example, a seamstress fae, being given an extra bit of silk that she desperately needed for her job, but couldn't afford.

The crone of the Cold Clear Spring parting with a few drops of the Pure Water for a husband that wants to cure his wife.

And so on and so forth. Just small acts of inconsequential kindness here and there.

And it was throwing the political ecosystem of the Snow World out of balance. Secret plans, trades, or favors were suddenly thrown out of wack.

Such as a cursed knight being cured of his illness, by a wandering fae, thus not being indebted to the water fae he was on his way to visit. Which in turn caused that water fae to miss out on the chance to have an assassin sent to kill her hated rival, which in turn caused another deviation, etc. etc.

Small things that were slowly changing the nature of the Snow World. It wasn't prominent or visible yet. Like some dirt that if not cleaned would cause one to get sick.

Maeve wasn't sure what the point of the Archangel's intended chaos was. Or maybe they didn't intend it and this was a natural consequence of having an angel around.

"Maeve, my child." Queen Mab called out with a gentle tone, with annoyed shimmering fire underneath. She already knew what Maeve knew, as their connection was that strong, especially in her realm. "Send out a call to little Viviane and her husband, I think I wish to meet them a little sooner."

Two months after arriving in the Snow World, Viviane and Raguel ended up meeting the Winter Queen much earlier than their original appointed time.

Comments

This was nice. It would be better if other people were able to see how to just be kind, without a Deus Ex Machina reason. People can go against the grain. And do so all the time.
