This might let me render animations in Cycles in a semi reasonable timeframe. Cycles renders way faster on cards with CUDA (so NVIDA) and Blender recently added OptiX support for RTX cards so it renders even faster, and I can also use the OptiX denoiser so I can render at lower sample counts and not get grainy images.
If I think Cycles still takes too long to render maybe I can start doing 60 FPS animations with Eevee? Dunno. Something's gonna get better at least!
Here are some benchmarks comparing it to my old card:
BMW (Cycles; GPU only, 35 samples, 512x512 tiles)
RX 480: 3:57 (237 seconds)
RTX 2060 Super: 1:07 (67 seconds)
Classroom (Cycles; GPU only, 150 samples, 512x512 tiles)
RX 480: 4:51 (291 seconds)
RTX 2060 Super: 2:41 (161 seconds)
Race Spaceship (Eevee; AO & SSR on, 2k samples)
RX 480: 1:44 (104 seconds)
RTX 2060 Super: 38 seconds
That last Yen & Ciri animation (Eevee, per frame)
RX 480: 33 seconds-ish
RTX 2060 Super: 19 seconds
Pretty big improvement. Also games run a lot better but no one cares about that :P Unfortunately this card does have some coil whine... but I don't think it's too bad so I probably will just keep it. Probably.
