definitely biased on your side as well, the cops and firefighters you grew up with don't represent the 1,000,000 officers and the 1,000,000 firefighters in the country and yeah New York cops are extremely overpaid especially for the mediocre job they do.

Seems like a good idea maybe to ram the door, and shoot a tear gas in there

Teachers are underpaid

Like I said, it 100% depends on the neighborhood. I'm not arguing against you. You're obviously biased, and I might be biased in the other direction. I grew up with cops and firefighters in my family in NY. They're fucking full of themselves. Most of them took the job in the same way military member take the job...they had no other option. Sorry...but, it's reality.

You are correct about EMS not getting paid enough. However you're statement about firefighters is erroneous to say the least. Yes, in the US about 70% are volunteer. It's because there are smaller communities outside of cities that can not afford a paid department, so they rely on volunteers. Volunteers have the same professional training/continuing training as a paid department. The only difference is we are not paid(or some paid per call, paid apparatus drivers, etc). Even in career departments they most certainly don't spend most of their time hanging out at the station every day. When not on calls they do community outreach, continually training and doing physical fitness routines, etc. When they are answering calls those calls require a lot of risk to their physical and psychological safety. So yes, since citizens rely on them to risk their lives to save lives and property they don't get paid enough. I've said my piece I won't respond after this since there would be any point.

firefighters don't deserve that. 95% of their job is just hanging out at the firehouse. That's why most of them are volunteers. If you want to talk about underpaid, talk about EMT's.

That's definitely not the normal pay for I'm betting most of the country, sadly especially in areas that are far from safe. I know firefighters most anywhere in the US do not make anything close to that. Many work an additional job to make ends meet. I think the FDNY starts at $45,000 which considering the cost living that's nothing.

It 100% depends on the wealth of your county since they're paid via tax revenue. I live on long island and a relatively safe county, and the cops make 6 figures almost right away...and get 50% pension for life when they retire. Most cops get a ton of overtime their final year to max out that pension benefit. Most cops will retire and make 60k or more a year for literally doing nothing.

Cops do not get paid enough that's for sure. In Pennsylvania the Boroughs and Townships that can't afford their own police department are covered by State Police. They ride a single trooper per car in large areas where there are no other cops anywhere in the area. The risk for them is even greater because back up won't be there for an extended period of time. In my area our local PD doesn't hesitant to help out on medical and fire calls in anyway that they can. Much respect to them.
