"What? Me, marry YOU?" Jasmine cried, her voice full of rage and indignation, "to think that I would ever marry a disgusting... a... something like YOU?!"
For a moment, the Slug King's eyes narrowed with fury, but then his face broke into sorrow and he began to blubber loudly.
"Oh, you're right, who was I kidding?" he moaned, "you're so beautiful, the Princess of Agrabah, and you see me as just a slimy monstrosity! Bloo-hoo-hoo!" He buried his enormous face in his hands and continued to weep, his massive, sluggy body quivering and undulating with each sob. Jasmine actually felt a stab of pity for the monster. He'd kidnapped her, brought her to his subterranean kingdom, made her fear for her life... but now he no longer seemed frightening, he seemed downright pathetic.
"Hey," she said in a softer tone, "I didn't mean... well, okay, I did. How do you expect me to feel? I want to go home! You'll have to find your "slug queen" somewhere else!"
The Slug King sniffled and blew his nose, ejecting a large burst of bright green mucous from his nostrils.
"You're right, of course, fair Princess. I was deluding myself. I... I will not keep you here."
Jamine smiled. At last, he was seeing reason.
"I tell you this," he continued, "I will immediately dispatch my swiftest messenger to the Above-World. They will find your friends, and bring them here so that they may take you home, bloo-hoo!"
"Thank you, your majesty," Jasmine replied, summoning all her royal training. "if you keep your word, then perhaps there can be peace among our two kingdoms."
"Sniff... I'd like that," the Slug King burbled. "but there's no time to waste, just wait here, fair princess!" And with that, he noisily slithered away and was soon lost in the fog.
Jasmine looked around her. Apart from a few tiny sluglings that were oozing along the rock, she was alone. She glanced about and marveled again at how abolutely huge the cave was -- it seemed to stretch forever in all directions, with massive cliffs and rocky protrusions emerging here and there from the thick fog.
She shivered. Now that her anger was subsiding, she began to feel the cold. "He could have at least returned my clothes before he left," Jasmine grumbled. "And is there anything around here to eat?" It had been a full day since her last meal, after all.
She wandered about, sat down, then stood up again and rambled about aimlessly. She didn't want to explore too far, lest the Slug King return and be unable to find her. She reached out and touched some of the slimy moss that grew everywhere, wincing at its slick texture.
"Ewww..."
She wiped her fingers on the tiny garment she was wearing, and then sniffed them. To her surprise, they smelled... tantalizing, in a way. Before she could stop herself, she licked the last drop of green slime from her hand. It actually tasted amazing, she had to admit. Gingerly, she picked up a small glob of the moss and tasted it...
....
Not too far away, the Slug King looked down on his captive and smiled a clever smile. He was bound to keep his word, and had already dispatched his swiftest messenger to locate the street rat and his pet genie... but he had, of course, neglected to mention that his swiftest messenger, being a slug, was still rather, well, sluggish by human standards. Even if they made good speed, the lovely princess was going to be down here for some time...
