August Dormitory Diary Entry - Watanabe

Hello, this is Watanabe.

Here’s my dormitory diary for August.

The mornings have been incredibly hot lately, so I rush to the office for relief. While the air conditioning there is a blessing, it sometimes gets too cold, prompting the need for a blankie.

Recently, I received feedback on some of my work pointing out that my drawings look stiff. It’s a common issue when doing in-between animation for a long time, as refining lines too much can lead to stiffness. I was wondering how to create less rigid lines when I came across something on social media that said:

"Your lines growing stiff as an in-between animator is a sign that you're progressing!"

I found this motivating.

For my next assignment, I tried drawing more loosely and quickly than usual, and it seemed to work at reducing the stiffness in my lines. Plus, it shortened my drawing time! While striving for perfection is important, I’ve realized that drawing so meticulously isn't the only correct approach.

Ultimately, the only way to improve is through practice. Quantity is key!

8月の寮生日記を投稿します。

最近朝からすごい暑さで、避難するように会社に行っています。会社はクーラーが効いているのですが、効きすぎて寒い時があるのでブランケットが必須です。

先日課題のフィードバックで、絵が固いと言われました。動画を長くやっているとありがちだと思うのですが、線を整えすぎて絵が固くなってしまいます。固くない線ってどうやって描けば良いんだろう…、と思っていたのですが、SNSか何かで「動画をやって線が固くなってしまうのは訓練してきた証拠！」というような内容を見かけて、心のモヤモヤが少し晴れた気がしました。その次の課題では、いつもよりラフに時間をかけずに描いてみたのですが、固さが少し改善されたような気がします。それと描く時間も短縮出来ました！完璧なものを描こうという気持ちも大切ですが、丁寧に描くだけが正解ではないと改めて思いました。

こればかりはたくさん描いて慣れるしかないですね。やっぱり量は正義…！

今月の絵は普通に雑なだけです。申し訳ありません。
