August Dormitory Diary Entry - Shimai

There’s so much to do and learn every day, sometimes I don’t finish work until the last train of the night is about to depart. When I get home, I fall into bed and pass out like I just got hit over the head with a frying pan.
It’s not like my work is particularly taxing physically, but keeping my brain running on full power for such a long period of time is starting to catch up to me.
From doing my working my assignments, I’ve come to see that the first step to drawing anything is planning. The most important thing you can do is figure out how you plan to express your subject before you draw it.
I used to just draw willy-nilly which made me oblivious to my mistakes. Then, I’d see them later and waste a ton of time going back to fix them.
When I have a solid understanding of what I’m drawing and a plan before I start, I save all of that time and sometimes even get time to prepare for my next cut which is a real plus.
My assignments can get tough and I have to learn a lot of new concepts for each one, but that just speaks to the complexity of this job.
I would, however, like to take it easy for the Bon festival holidays (haha…)
I’ve been at my studio for 4 months and I’m still unsure of what lies ahead, but I’m excited to conquer the challenges to come. See ya next time~!

更新大変遅くなりすみません。島井です。
毎日やることと覚えることが多すぎて、終電ギリギリまで作業をすることもあったり、帰宅後気絶するように寝る…ということが多いです。 今は体力的なしんどさと言うより、頭を長時間フル回転させていることについてのしんどさがあります。
課題をこなすにつれ、何を描くにもまず計画が必須で、見せたいものをどうしたら見せられるかという点が1番重要だと教わりました。私はいつも考え無しにいきなり描き始めてしまうところがあったのですが、そうすると完成する前に失敗していることに気づけなかったり、書き直すのに無駄な時間をかけてしまうことが多くありました。分析や計画をしっかりしておくことで、その無駄な時間を省けて、その分ブラッシュアップだったり次のカットを描く時間が出来たり本当にメリットしかないと思いました。
難しい課題も多いですが新たな学びも沢山あり、奥が深い仕事であると感じます。でもやっぱりお盆くらいはのんびりさせてほしい～と思ったりはします(苦笑)
入社して4ヶ月、まだまだこの先どうなっていくのか分かりませんがなんとか乗り切りたいと思います。では～。
