Hello. Kimura here.
This is my exclusive dormitory diary entry for November.
Since my last lunch meeting with my project coordinator (which I wrote about in my last post), I’ve been focused on changing my attitude and approach towards work. Basically, I mean getting enough sleep, getting to the office early, wrapping up work up on days where I feel tired by closing time, and staying longer only when I have the mental and physical means to. I used to grab some caffeine whenever I felt sleepy, but on top of that being bad for my health, being dependant on caffeine to be productive doesn’t sit well with me so I stopped. It’s only been 2-3 days since then but I already feel like I’m sleeping better and able to focus more.
Also, I’ve been putting some important stuff off for a few months now which was stressing me out, but I’ve started taking care of that, too. I think I’ll be able to catch up on late diary entries as well.
I was so determined to work hard that I ended up crashing, becoming unable to do even simple things. Sorry for the delay.
But, that’s enough reflection for one day. Let’s switch over to some wins.
My in-between frames for this month were slightly under 200. Up to now, I’ve had a hard time getting my drawing speed up, but I feel like I’m getting the hang of it now. I often hear that digital art is harder to make a living with compared to analog drawing since you can easily undo and zoom in which makes it easy to fuss over small details, spending too much time on one frame.
However, I’ve recently thought of a few ways to make the drawing process faster, even digitally. With digital, I can alter the front and back cels of a scene faster than I can with analog, integrating lines of similar angles across multiple drawings in a cut and allowing me to advance many cels simultaneously. Compared to drawing frame by frame, this cuts down on time spent rotating drawings and coloring outlines. It’s nice because I can draw while inspecting each frame, allowing me to check my work as I go.
I’m hoping to get above 200 frames next month, assuming the project isn't too hard!
