Something you can do to make the performance more convincing is to pay attention to the overall balance and details.
Whether it's the overall balance or the details, acting it out and taking a picture of yourself is the fastest way to get them right. It may be a hassle, but that is the shortcut.
I tend to get a little lazy myself, so I still struggle to remind myself to be careful of these things as well."
