I never watch trailers for movies because my experience with them has just been them spoiling crucial info in the movie that would hit much harder if I had went into the movie blind. I only see trailers when I’m waiting for a movie to start and I’m sitting in the cinema seat and there’s loud trailers on the big screen in front of me, which I can’t really ignore lol but as someone who went into this movie blind, I had a pretty pleasant experience. I had no clue what to expect and I’d seen zero footage of the trailer, so the principal turning and running towards our main character came out of nowhere for me and I found that really fun. seeing that scene in the trailer would have DEFINITELY ruined that scene for me and not made it nearly as impactful and I would just constantly be impatiently waiting for it it wasn’t the greatest horror; it was fun but like you guys said, I completely agree that I wanted something stronger and not as comedic. and omg I also hated those name title sequences and I had the same exact thought of “oh no, is this going to be the whole movie” when like the 3rd one popped up. I also hated how jumpscarey it was, like when the witch was on the ceiling of our main character’s bedroom for some reason, it made me feel like I was watching a conjuring-esque horror movie. I thought those were cheap. I also thought that the director’s previous movie, barbarian, had a cheap main scare which was the weird creepy wrinkly old woman in the basement. and now weapons came out and we once again had a weird creepy wrinkly old woman. it just felt like such a cheap scare. I think the term for the old scary lady horror genre is hagsploitation lol and if weapons was trying to say something about school shootings, which I def got a vibe from due to the ak47 and the sole survivor in a class, I’m confused why the kids went back to their families at the end ? I think it would’ve been a lot more powerful if it was never explained, like aaron said, and none of the kids returned - then it would feel a lot more ‘school shooting metaphor’ic. I also thought it was silly how the little girl’s voiceover is reiterating what she heard from the community in the town, regarding the disappearances, but the movie contains unnecessary scenes like our main character fucking rough as hell with the cop lol which made me review the movie on letterboxd with “how did that little girl know all that”. some info was just too much ? like you guys said, each of the people’s povs could have been shortened by like 2-10 minutes… way too much going on, way too much useless and unnecessary information which was prolonging the movie and made it feel sooo long and tiring. I didn’t get all the 5 star reviews and let out a sigh of relief when I saw aaron rated it 2.5 because that means I am not insane #AaronAndJoTheOnlyRealAndTrueCinephiles

Last Podcast on the Left did an interview with the director, Zach Cregger, who was one of the The Whitest Kids U'Know. He said he intentionally made it partly comedic. I also don't think it meshed well.

I felt pretty middle of the road about the movie too. I agree with you about the scene where she gets her hair cut in the car—that was one of the freakiest scenes I’d seen in a while 😭 but I think what really pulled me out of the movie was the supernatural element. Horror movies always become less scary to me when stuff like that happens bc I know it’s not real if that makes sense?? I was hoping for a more psychological thriller, but I did enjoy the camerawork and honestly didn’t mind the pov switching bc it reminded me of dunkirk lol

random: i was wondering what happened to the monster high video? i recommend monster high: ghouls rule i just re watched it w/ my sister genuinely the funniest one and easiest one to do commentary too. genuinely better then the Barbie and Bratz movies. also a clip from it turned into a meme recently. promise yall will definitely get a good video with it alot of room for jokes and yall surprisingly picked the worst one to watch first. love yall stay blessed 🙌🏼🙌🏼

I think if we got a witch pov and took out the cop and junkie guy it would be way more interesting

Jess Tyrell

Not "serviceable" jo is not impressed

Miriah

The director said it was a metaphor for having alcoholic parents 😟 but ya the movie is like a 2.5/5 for me

Leona

gave it a 3/5. it kept me interested until the witch reveal, idk i thought there would be a more interesting or disturbing or sinister reason rather than just fairytale witch, something we wouldn't have seen before. but maybe thats why the trailer felt so good as we don't know what's behind the kids going missing and once we do it is going to be disappointing either way? i agree that pacing was off. agree that cop junkie sequence was fun but didnt add much to the movie. i liked the performances and the visual of any scene the kids were running. but the intro saying the kids never came back when they assumably all get returned to their homes and families??
