A childhood favorite. I haven't watched this in at least 20 years. Lots of goofy kid nonsense, inexplicable courage-based magic, but also incredible animation, an interesting exploration of what it means to be "human" or sentient, and cool action scenes like the sword fight and plow sabotage. I'm still hella amused and impressed that this kid's movie grapples with animal testing and goes so far as to jam a sci-fi plot into this story about field animals This movie was made by Don Bluth, who did make the original Feivel movie, as well as other non-Disney animated classics. He used to work for them until he decided he wanted to make cartoons with bloody action and the American immigrant experience, I guess.
