BTW, I also agree with you that they just should focus on the political/historical side of it. But the truth is that if they were to do that, it would become an almost male-only show, since Rome was like one of the most patriarchal societies to ever live and women didn't had part in anything they considered relevant at the time. These TV shows already have their own tested formulas that they try to apply to almost everything. You can't not notice the similarities(in good and bad) between this show and GoT, for example.
