"During his original thought process, Stephen King saw the two novels as one, their thematic links meant to merge them together in a two-volume book entitled In the Path of the Eclipse. Though King ultimately decided to divide Gerald's Game and Dolores Claiborne into two full books, he allowed motifs and common themes, including the notable presence of the same 1963 summer eclipse, weave the separate stories together."
