I'm not sure if you noticed but the woman that played the sister was also in one of the Doctor Who episodes you watched. I agree, there's not much going on, but once they're in the house, with all the parallels of the present and the past, it's interesting to think what's real and what's not real. Also, that one part when the older version of the sister screams, or says something and it's like the younger version could also hear her as a random sound in the distance. Really blurring past with present.
