Great reaction, thanks as always. So I’m sure it’s popular (I haven’t looked yet) but I’m guessing it’s in black and white primarily to highlight the color parts: the memories, the hindsight. I assume Scorsese read LaMotta’s biography and saw he was never happy in the present, knew he regretted past actions (over and over). So, reality for him being black and white makes sense there. Now I’m gonna check out if Jake ever commented on that huge part of the film. Edit: perhaps my interpretation is wrong cuz it sure ain’t popular. Hell, I think I’m right and Marty didn’t wanna admit it to Jake irl.
