It does seem this was the movie that started that series of movies like Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and the like. I respect it for that, easy.

The last interview with Nigel is worth checking out, you should be able to find it on YouTube. Also, you recognized Billy Crystal, but the other mime he was talking to was Dana Carvey. Another great review/commentary at the end too.
