i did not say it was ideal but necessary. that’s an important distinction. overcorrections happen for a reason. shaming people on twitter is not canceling them in any shape or form… if that was the case dave chapelle’s career would’ve ended 4 specials ago. they keep dragging his name through the mud but guess what? that doesn’t mean anything, as goony said it’s just twitter. really wish you had watched the episode before commenting bro!

2022-01-09 14:32:43 +0000 UTCI'm not following Bojack yet, I watched the first episode, didn't like it that much, but you and other people brought up the fact it gets better with time. Maybe I'll get back to it when I have more time. But back to the subject. I'm not saying it's ok to be homophobic, misogynistic or racist in public, people like that have to be exposed and have to deal with the consequences of doing so. The thing I said it's unwelcome it's the cancelling culture that pretty much cancels people for having said stupid shit in the past or out of context to pretty much destroy your life. Goony for example it's not racist or misogynistic, but he mentions all the time he fears be cancelled just for calling someone a btch. Is that what you picture as ideal? Are you okay in giving the power to public shame people to someone who just happens to have a big twitter account? Seems so weird to me that there is people that actual stand for stuff like that, seems really repressive existence where you are always worried about what you say and who do you say stuff to.
2022-01-09 13:00:45 +0000 UTCmaybe you should watch the episode for more context. but i stand by my opinion, it is a necessary overcorrection due to an extremely chaotic racist homophobic and misogynistic environment in the entertainment industry but also politics sports etc. as a black man in the west, i do not support the right nor the left. they both suck and it’s a lotta manipulation on both sides. that being said, our current use of cancel culture is not even slightly comparable to how it was back in the days. also someone calling you out on twitter is not really “canceling” when we are talking about someone actually having to hide their sexuality by fear of losing their job…

2022-01-09 01:09:16 +0000 UTCThe problem is: who should have the authority to cancel other people, who qualifies to do so? Having hundreds of thousands of followers on Twitter should qualify or entitle you to public shame other people? Cancel culture is one of those unwelcome stuff the American Leftist exports to the rest of the world, among other stuff. I didn't watch the episode, the comment just called my attention. PS: I'm Left-Wing myself, I just think some critics are in order in this case.
2022-01-08 19:28:52 +0000 UTCyeah cancel culture is not new at all back in the days the amount of ignorant/racist shit people would say/do and how many careers it ruined… so today’s cancel culture is honestly just an overcorrection. sometimes it might be over some trivial stuff but it was necessary and did a lot of good. and btw the book is the main plot of s1, then they move on to other things, they will explore more of his past, his parents and the trauma in later seasons!
