I would also like to add some more information about how to pick hair shapes: How I shape the hair is based on gravity, thickness of the hair and the texture. Hair can be straight and without any curves, but it can also be cloud like in its shape. How you draw the hair depends on what qualities you want the hair to have. If you want to draw straight hair, you avoid soft edges and if you want a more curly look you can avoid making the hair look stiff. BUT there are exceptions, especially cause straight hair behaves differently than 4C hair. The best way to make good hair shapes is to know what you want, google up references of the hairtypes and use them as a guide when you draw!
