I just joined today because I just want to be able to support you more. I listen to your music practically every day and I constantly rewatch all of your videos because they're so damn funny, witty, and wholesome. I want to be able to give back to you since you provide us with AMAZING content. I completely understand not being comfortable with taking money that you don't need from people, TRUST me I get it. I'm the same way. But I personally would love to be able to support you like this, and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way. Sooo I took yer advice and started supporting smaller channels, you make a good point about there being many talented creators who need the support (check out Techvania as an example). Since we're only talking about a few bucks a month I didn't feel the need to suspend support to anyone else, rather just spread it around a little more. I've only been a supporter on Patreon for a little while now (I think I joined when the Esports video dropped) but whatever you choose to do I'll support you man - I signed up because I wanted to support you doing something you seem to genuinely enjoy doing (and your music is dope - I had your music on repeat all weekend when I got married back in September). If you decide to pause the suspend the Patreon, I still want to support you by doing shit like sharing your vids, buying more merch, etc. Your Disney Channel Original Movies video made me realize why I love YouTube as much as I do, and through watching your videos I learned about other creators like Eddy and Gus who I fucking love watching now I think your videos also helped me get the motivation to put myself out there and try out streaming and creating content. I haven't gotten myself on YouTube just yet, but I've been pushing myself to actually do streaming with Twitch (which I have been telling myself I was gonna do but always a bit nervous about it), and this past weekend during the Extra Life charity event I got like 80 people to join my stream which is bonkers to me I guess what I'm trying to say with all that is do what you feel is best for you dude because the reason I got interested in your shit is because you seem to enjoy doing it genuinely, and the last thing I think any of us would want is for you to have to force it and start not enjoying what you do. I totally don't mind supporting you even if there aren't any videos coming. I love what you do and want you to succeed. But trust me, I understand if you want to suspend your patreon for a bit. As someone who has anxiety as well, I know how much it sucks. what I am basically trying to say is, do whatever is best for you. Your mental health is important so if suspending this is what you need to do then go for it. Just know that when/if you want to reopen it again, we will be here to support you again.

"long time" communityman here i appreciate all of the work and stress you go through for your fans, and at any rate i'll continue to support your efforts. I'd say there are a few ways go to about the discord, a) make it public, and implement some good guidelines and such b) start a second server and make that public, making that be super organized and moderated well. this way you have one server to be a bit more relaxed and directly connect to the more passionate supporters, then have another for general announcements and occasional discussion. c) keep it private and just leave the subreddit for that more public organized interaction. the next thing with the music, something like the bandcamp would be great. then we could pay what we want to support and then for the people that cant keep up they can simply download for free. then you could just do like monthly (or however frequent) collections like you do now either way i'm looking forward to see what you do next and plan to continue supporting and helping build the already great community. ps, that horror video was great, it nails just what i like about horror in games, im not fond of the screechy jumpscare fests that you'd normally find. i love those key moments of mood change, being able to blend genres making it great. moments like the flood levels in halo, that brilliant dentist moment in bioshock, if you havent checked it out, the new destiny expansion. where the ghost starts talking all weird and you get sucked in to this giant spooky-dook pyramid and get stuck fighting all of these big bad ghost bosses from the previous campaigns. absolutely great it's stuff like this that really helps to put into words what makes gaming special, reminds us of the stuff that most big name businesses completely miss and try to fill up with loot boxes and fancy gimmicks. if i need to explain to someone why i love halo sooo damn much i can so easily pull up your halo videos and just let it jam. booyah

Hi Jakey. I've been watching your videos since you made the GTA IV True or Nostalgia one, and let me just say, you are one of my absolute favorite creators of all time on YouTube. Unfortunately I wasn't able to support you on patreon earlier, but I would absolutely love to be able to donate any bit I can to you on this platform now. The insane amounts of passion you put into your work is simply astounding, and even though I'm 3 years younger than you, it's ridiculous how much the entertainment you consumed and experiences you've had growing up line up with my childhood->adulthood. I'm only a *slight bit* (ok, hugely) sentimental and nostalgic, and the way you craft your videos is something so rare and special on YouTube, so it feels like I can really connect to them. Thank you so much for doing what you do, and I really hope that I can support you (even if it's not much) for a long time to come. I completely understand how devastating anxiety can be myself, because I've had to deal with that, and some (for lack of a better descriptor) more intense mental illnesses for as long as I can remember. The one thing I would say, is to keep doing you. Even if your upload schedule is sporadic and has huge gaps in between, I still have all of your previous videos to go back and re-watch. Do what makes you happy, don't worry about compensating us for supporting you, because (at least I) felt like I wanted to give back to a creator that had already given me so much free, wonderful content. It's not my intention to throw shade, but your mods on your discord already have a hard time moderating the discord. Not only are they @'ing everyone for no reason, but they aren't really moderating either. I love what you do, and I want to see you reach new heights. But my suggestion is to not even worry about discord. As you said, it's more of ours than yours at this point. But with that said, you might as well separate yourself from it if you aren't going to participate in it. Not only is it one less thing to worry about, but this also stops your server from becoming something that could potentially drag your name through the mud. Nothing but love for you, however. If there is anything I could recommend it would be starting a podcast or live streaming more. Not only could you make these patreon exclusives, but it would also allow you to directly interact with your fan base on a more personal level. While also giving yourself free time to worry about yourself when you're not streaming or doing your podcast. I hope you the best!

I understand where you're coming from with this.I think that, if it would make you feel better and less stressed out about your work, then you should do it (suspend the patreon). Maybe the patreon could be kind of a "safety net" for a slow month or two if something happens (I'd still like to help pay your rent lmao), but otherwise be suspended. I think you know best what's good in your life, and if you'd have more mental space and less stress, I think you should suspend the patreon until you've figured it out. We want to support you, but if it's not what you want or would feel comfortable taking, you don't owe it to us to accept it, it's more an offer to help (for me at least). Just keep creating in the way that feels fulfilling to you. :)

Hey Jakey, I support you for you. YOU even more than the "NakeyJakey" content itself. So please allow me to throw $1/mo at you for as long as I wish to (whether you like it or not lol). I experienced YouTube content creation, anxiety/stress, + therapy to get through all of the complex emotions, back in 2007-2012. I'm resonating w/ you quite a bit, (albiet, on a more micro-scale), but I wanted to share two opinions of mine. 1. As long as you're transparent and honest on your Patreon (as you clearly are), trust in your patrons financial decision-making capabilities. Even if you make a post tomorrow saying "Dudes, I'm gonna take a 6-month hiatus." Sure, maybe you'd have a drop in some pledges, but I would still maintain my pledge with you! Point being, I don't think that you need to feel the responsiblity for pausing the Patreon ever. Believe it or not, us gamer boys and girls have brains, and we're able to cancel if we ever wanted to! (Gosh jeez Jakey, respect us a little (jkjk internet sarcasm)). I made a patreon long after the peak of my YT career, and recieved support even when I was only outputting 1 video per year. And recently even after announcing a hiatus on all my social platforms, I had a drop, but people are still choosing to donate each month! And it feels fucking weird because I always associated "value" with "content" - but for the patron, the value is to have some way to more directly support you than the average viewer. Even if it's passive and there's no actual product or service in return. So that goes with saying, I hope you don't decide to take the Patreon away from us. 2. You shouldn't associate your self-worth to the quantity or quality of the content you put out. I see it to some degree, but what I say going forward may go into assumption-territority since I don't know you personally. But if you recognize that you tend to feel guilty for not putting more content out, or not making a top quality video... It's not healthy mentality and seriously do your best to cut it out of your life. Not to get too preachy or play therapist online, but that sort of mentality may of been a good mechanism to aid you through school or complete certain projects. And even for recent things, you may feel applying that pressure to yourself is what helps you make good videos. But it's not sustainable for the creative process, and you'll run out of steam more and more the more you do it. And I know that's MUCH easier said than done, and excuse me again for the assumptions, but I say all of that in hopes that you can find a way to not feel guilty/stress/anxious when it comes to content. But yeah, I'm happy to see you flooded with internet support. Not that I think you'll need it from a rando patron, but down to dm anytime if more of my ramblings could help lol.

At the end of the day we're all getting the same FREE content but WE CHOOSE to pay you a tip. I like the idea of a public Discord but I'm afraid it'll be hard on the mods with all that traffic. There are other ways the HB nation can congregate, like your comment section or subreddit. So I read about the no more Patreon thingy and since I just got here I honestly have no real advice on the question, I just wanted to support you in a regular fashon because you're doing good content. I wanted to do videos about games and I have the same background that you do, for instense I did music my whole life before stepping in game dev. I have a lot of points of views I share with you and I like the way you explain things And i'm a fanboy of the same companies that you are, almost the same games ( did not play halo when young ) and touched by the same aspects of video gaming. Yet your content is so well made it gives me more thoughts on it and I want that to keep going on. But stress is harmful, to me either you stop it, either you cure it. And by cure it I mean that the stress and kind of insecurity, get rid of that. If you are the only one complaining then you are the only one that is putting that stress on yourself that maybe nobody cares about. Realisticly at least someone cares about that but mostly it is very untrue. But that might not be enough and then you should find another way of getting income ! Anyway i'm glad to be here !

Even you are financially stable maybe consider it like a tip, a thankyou for putting out so much quality content for free. Also I’m not to sure what it’s like for you but you mentioned in your last video that you were seeing a Therapist and I know sometimes that can get expensive. I totally understand why you might want to make this decision but I feel like you put so much effort you put into your videos, I don’t mind that they might come staggered or you might not post frequently, because when you do it’s something you worked hard on and are genuinely are proud of (which you should be) - I can only imagine how many days it would have taken you to write, film and edit your red dead video - and it was amazing. It's good to have that amount of money for future purposes as you don't know what's coming next for you as a content creator in a platform that's really fucked up. It's cool you open up stuff like music or discord to miserable guys like me who can barely give you 1 buck a month tho, but I think you should keep the discord server private, it has an enormous amount of people already....I mean, I left because social anxiety so...yeah. About patreon being a pressure, I felt the same at some point with mine, but at the end I stopped getting worried about it, cuz I got that people is there supporting me because they like what I do, so I just post whatever for them, anytime I can and they've been great people with me. I know we mostly feel the same way supporting you, so don't let anxiety get you man, as a person dealing with that shit day to day, I can tell you, you can avoid it. Hey jakey. It was late when I wrote my first comment but I wanted to touch on your first point about supporting smaller creators. I made the choice to support you because I enjoyed viewing your content and wanted to encourage more of it. If I run into another content creator that I feel that way about, then I'll support them TOO. I don't want you to deny me the ability to support you because you think I'm gonna move my support somewhere else. I think a good solution is to allow me/us to continue to support you, and you grow your channel big enough to do collaboration work with those creators that YOU like. I don't think there's ever such thing as "too big for support" when it comes to content creators.

Patreon isn't Kickstarter - the spirit here is not that we're paying for something and demanding that it be fulfilled. Instead, we are able to use Patreon to express our support for creators we believe in -- that we ourselves can have a hand, through those gifted individuals, in making the world a brighter, funnier, more thoughtful place when we ourselves may not have the time or talent. If I'm being honest, I appreciate that you allow us that opportunity through your Patreon, and being a part of yours isn't taking away money from any other creator (in my case at least). Just my thoughts, hope it helps.

One of the reasons patreon is so great is that you can donate a little every month rather than paying big bucks for merch drops. It works for some people but I prefer patreon over buying merch because it's more manageable for me. I have to say noone here thinks you're taking advantage of the patrons or not giving enough stuff - like you said there have been no complaints and that is for a reason. We all just want to support you!

That's a difficult call to make, but trust your feelings, Luk-- er, Jakey! We've got your back, there's other ways to support you, if you feel Patreon has run it's course that's all good! As for the discord, I'm not on it enough to say personally, so I'll leave that one up to the others.

The problem with making the discord completely private is that people tend to come and go, and as people go, the server will become smaller and smaller. If you have some way of bringing new people (invites only active during streams or something like that) without overflowing it you can keep the server healthy. Otherwise congrats my dude, im glad you're in a place where you can do something like this, i love your videos and you really deserve it

I know I cant be the only person that supports you, and other creators, on patreon not only for what they are creating now, but also about what they created in the past. As a creator of personal projects I get the anxiety thing. I always feel like a piece of shit when I fail to meet a deadline I set for myself, and I only make things for my pleasure. I cant even begin to fathom how much it sucks to have that anxiety multiplied by the thousands of people that support you. As plenty of the others have already stated, you do you mane. If shutting down the patreon would help alleviate the stress, then by all means. But even if you only released one video a year I, and many others, still wouldn’t mind just throwing our money at you.

Hey Jakey, this really resonates. In fact, every time you've suspended your Patreon it's made total sense to me. There's multiple types of pressure, and the anxiety pressure of feeling like you're letting people down sucks. You're one of the few creators whose content I'll watch immediately the day it comes out. So to me, I always saw Patreon as a way to ensure you could take the time needed to make content the way you wanted to make it, and because of that, we'll all enjoy it. If you feel comfortable moving away from Patreon, it sounds like a healthy decision for your mental health. I'd love to see you find an alternative to throw in like a one-off donation link. Something like a donation link after a video is posted might meet the balance between not stressing out, and letting people first evaluate how much they can spend at the time. Overall, if I can donate to you or not, it will not stop me from continuing to donate to smaller creators. I donate to you because I want to support you, and whatever way you choose to allow support in the future I'll continue to do. I just want my Jakey to have the creative freedom to do whatever his wittle heart desires.

It made me genuinely happy, along with everyone else here, to see you type out the words "I'm at a point I can fund myself". From your videos whether it be a nostalgia trip about video game cheats and sound effects or bonding with you over Dark Souls saving you while laying cozy in your bed, all of your videos have comforted both me and all the friends I have shown your videos and music. I agree with other comments here, don't jump ship until you are financially stable and have those sponsorships secured. Once that cash flow is guaranteed perhaps it would be a better time to address the Patreon issue. However, I feel that your patrons are all here to offer their irrevocable support. Myself included. My money dollars have been pledged to help contribute to a wonderful and passionate artist, regardless of your financial situation. If you can arrange funding through other means, great! But take those in addition to the support system you've built here. Maybe the money could be used towards expansion or more projects - whatever your time allows for. So before you go changing your financial situation, make sure your alternative is working FIRST. Once you've got it all lined up, do what makes you the most comfortable. I appreciate you updating us like this, since I’ve had an experience in the past when a creator didn’t really update/suspend their patreon to express that they weren’t interested in doing patreon anymore, either in the way you described or otherwise (or at least I think that was the case, like I said, their patreon is basically dead). While I wanted to support them regardless of reward, it made me feel really used when the reward I signed up for never came and I couldn’t contact them to figure out what happened. It’s really nice to know that you care enough to update us regularly and suspend the patreon when you feel like you don’t need it or is any way hindering on you, instead of just leaving it open and not fulfilling rewards without notice. I like donating to my favourite creators like you without reward, but I like transparency too and you make me feel not dumb for wanting to donate. Also for the discord, while I would like to keep it a secret cool club for epic gamers, I think it would be better if new fans had the chance to join if they wanted.

For me it's not really that I'm paying for content every month, it's more I'm supporting a creator that I feel deserves to have the ability to make whatever their sexy ass mind can think of whenever they feel like that also happens to be baller ass. No matter what I think most, if not all of the people here, are here just cause they feel you are a genuine person that deserves good things to happen to them no matter their quirks or flaws or what have you. The Patreon staying or not doesn't matter to as much cause the whole idea was to give you a way to make content and share yourself without worry that it was gonna hurt you. So if you can do it on your own now great, I couldn't be happier for you, but don't feel too guilty either if you keep it up as insurance in a sense. Well, Jakey. I think that if you honestly, truthfully feel that you can fund your endeavors without the support of our patreon money, then I think you should suspend it. I also admire that you encouraged us to put that money towards creators who need it more. In regards to the discord, I personally feel that making the discord server public would make a lot of people very happy, because they will get to interact with fellow hotboys and hotgirls. However, the larger a community grows the more overwhelming and disjointed it may feel to those who have been involved with the community for a long time, but that would affect a smaller group of people compared to the former option. So in the end, the former is probably the better choice. But that's just my opinion. Mr. Nakey, I am in support of the idea of suspending the Patreon, mainly because you mentioned it causes you a lot of anxiety. I'm also super happy to keep supporting you too, as I'm sure all of us are, but! If it's stressing you out each month, then it's not really proper support is it? You're right about your stuff being worth the wait time between videos. I don't think any of us expect a video each month, but I think it's admirable that you want to do right by us. I don't personally use discord, and I don't really plan on it, so I may be a bit biased. But I never used patreeon for the whole exclusives thing. I do it to support the people I feel really deserve it more than just a subscribe on YouTube. I hate being unhelpful but I think you should continue to just do whatever your gut is telling you to do. I personally feel you deserve all the support you're receiving and you shouldn't feel guilty over it but your feelings are completely valid and important so if it's causing you more stress than it's worth then you should suspend it. I became a patron because I wanted you to be able to take your time on your work without worrying about anything and I promise everything you've released has always been 100% worth the wait for me. Either way, I'll keep watching and listening to anything you put out regardless of your decision. And I'd be totally okay with you just suspending it and then restarting it again if you ever need to. (also I don't really go into the discord or use it so I don't have any opinion on that)

As for the discord server, I think we'd need a couple more mods if it were to go public. I'm personally not against the idea of it going public, but there'd have to be some prep work beforehand. I say keep it going- I don’t contribute because I need a jakey vid once a week, I’m here because you’re an awesome person with a good heart to boot, and I want you to not just grow but to soar. I’m here for the vids whenever they happen. If you’re stressed about an upload schedule you can spread it out some more, I’m willing to wait for hand crafted content. It’s kind of like Internet Historian, he doesn’t churn out tons of videos but his audience is willing to wait for each hand crafted and lovingly prepared video, and I get that same made-with-love experience from each Jakey video. Another idea would be some more personal vlogs, like of your travels or something. Or that could be a patreon only thing, or both idc. Honestly if everything stayed the same I would still be a patron, or if you decided to not keep this going I’m just gonna have to buy merch. I will say however that I’ve modded plenty of discord servers and I do think a private one is better, but if it’s available to all tiers of patron that’s cool. Just my 2c keep being you jakey ❤️

I just started supporting you, and the reason for that is that I truly value the work you put into your videos. You can tell they are passionate and you have done your research and due diligence. And I personally would prefer you take the money from us than a corporation. We should be your customers, not the advertisers. While I would not blame you for making that choice, I believe that the grassroots funding will be the best course for you. No hidden agendas, and you get to make the videos you want. With random companies funding you, you never know what type of pressure or influence they will put on you.

I think the discord should be open only if you suspend the Patreon, there’s no true reason to keep exclusivity for something that can’t be achieved (much like the MW2 spinning 10th prestige emblem). Also, don’t even trip about the donations my guy, it’s always nice to tip an excellent waiter/server. We chose to donate to ya, and I doubt any of us are regretting dropping a max if $10 to help out even in the slightest. gamers gotta stick together :)

I think that you need to do what would make you feel the best. That being said, I feel good giving you my money because of how much of an impact you're channel and music have had on me. It is weird that some of the entertainment I like most in the world is completely free for me to watch and listen to. If you were to continue with Sponsorships and Merch, perfect, but I think this gesture, this announcement, is more than enough to show people that you do truly care and want to support fellow creators. I get the anxiety about taking money and not being on a good schedule for projects, honestly. I have to kick my ass up and down the street to finish any song or video I do. But it seems as though most if not all of us don't care about the schedule as much as we do showing our support for someone we love. You're a real one and I'm glad you're open about all this and if you feel like suspending the Patreon is the best thing to do, that's your choice man, but I feel guilty about not being able to support a creator I watch/listen to so often. That's why Patreon has been such a blessing. It's not about paying for a service. It's about support. Also, about the discord, I get if you want to open it up, but I feel that it'd become too hectic of a place to enjoy, seeing how crazy it can get already

It's also great to see that such an inspiring and talented creator as you is getting a proper money for doing what you love. I see your point about the merch and other stuff, but personally for me it's much easier and comfortable to support you through this thing, as I live in Russia (yep, that fuckhole) and sometimes it's a bit hard to get any of a merch. (Delivery costs are crazy and basically double or triple the price)

You can switch your patreon to on a 'Per Creation' schedule, so you only get paid by patreon when you finish a piece of work 3. You're already at potential Partner status on Twitch. If you were streaming, would you stop people from donating there too? 4. If you feel EXTRA guilty about being such a fucking pimp, why not use the patreon money to reward your patrons? Put the money aside into a 'Fan Reward' account, and then use it to do meetups across the globe/pay an artist for new merch/PAY FOR BETTER INTERNET SO YOU CAN STREAM I SWEAR TO GOD 5. Put the patreon money aside as an 'IN CASE OF DEMONETISATION/SHITTY SPONSORSHIPS' fund. You might feel bad about this stuff, but imagine how shitty you're gonna feel if you have to do a sponsorship for a company that turns out to kill actual babies? If you turn off the patreon, i'm literally going to send you money in the mail like the proud mom that I am, so figure it out. And jesus, get a PO Box already, I've had this fucking bag of coffee beans sat here for months

First off. I started supporting you because of your music ( which I found on Spotify radio of all places, what luck huh ). I’ve never been much of a music person but yours kinda clicked with me, saintlike was the first song iv ever been able to properly sing along with. Anyway I digress 🤓. The main reason I started supporting was because I knew Spotify was really bad at the “royalties” they pay artists for every listen. But if you can now support yourself with other sources of income that’s incredible. I also understand being anxious about delivering paid content to so many people, that would be like my nightmare. I think everyone here is here because you bring value to our lives and we want to throw a little love back at you Jakey. Even someone like me who just gives $1 per month feels some pride to be able to do that. Patreon was made for small creators to be able to be independent, and I get that you're getting past that point now, but I think you should keep this up just as an example of what small independent creators can strive for. If you really don't feel right taking the money, there are charities you could give this to, or you could just use it as your own platform for shouting out lesser known creators on Patreon. Keep doing your thing and be nice to yourself - I recently heard a cool quote recently that the person we talk to most is ourselves, and if we're not nice to the person we talk to the most, it's harder to stay a nice person. Not sure if that's applicable or not, but the shit you make continues to be rad, and timelines are kind of bogus anyway. Keep leading the charge and doing your thing dude, we'll be here 🤙🏼🤙🏼

I don't typically respond to these things, but this one I really wanted to. As someone who grew up extremely poor and has a harsh view on greed and capitalism I find this just amazing. Most creators once they start making money, they only want more and they add super high tiers, and eventually make things accessible to those of us with low funds. Whatever you decide to do will be awesome, and I personally will support. But thank you for being one of the best creators out there, and who cares more about what they are creating then what they are making. And I don't want to knock others too much, people need to make money.... it's when I notice that the greed takes over that it is a huge bummer for me. I view Patreon as a service to tip. I can just...not do it anytime I want to. I'd say keep it up for those that want to contribute, but if you are really not comfortable because you're "not giving back" then get rid of it. I would say ultimately it falls on how you feel versus on how we feel about not being able to send you a few bucks.
