CHAPTER 38

Max wasn't clear on what he had done before falling asleep, but anyway, when he woke up, he found it was the morning of the next day!

"...I... yesterday, I think I turned into... Slowpoke, right? Uh... it should be Slowpoke. I seem to have a vague memory of gnawing on my tail while sleeping."

Smacking his lips, there was actually a residual milky taste in his mouth, which felt strange.

Max casually summoned a ball of clear water, rinsed his mouth with it, rubbed his face, and washed away the lingering grogginess.

"Ah—, if I can't remember, then I won't think about it! A Slowpoke's brain can't hold much information anyway. Better to think about what I should do today!"

Max left the "Tomb of the Living Dead." Outside his base, the sun was already high in the sky.

"It feels like it's almost noon! Time to get to work, get to work!"

He fully activated the teleportation array of this base. This caused the entire mountaintop to continuously vibrate. As time passed, the entire mountain flew up and then slipped into a different dimension.

"Done. This way, even if the Earth explodes, I'll have a place to live!"

He then casually dug a pit nearby and expended some magic power to gather pure water into this pit. Having a water pit made transforming feel safer.

"Alright! Today's lottery draw begins!"

Omnitrix, activate!

Bang!

When the green light of transformation dissipated, a triangular chicken? Oh no, it should be a bird! It appeared on the spot.

The yellow bird looked at its reflection in the puddle and spoke:

"The Yellow Bird from Angry Chicks? A speedster!"

"Angry Chicks" was Max's teasing way of putting it; the Yellow Bird he was referring to was a character from "Angry Birds."

Its nickname was Dart Yellow, and its name was Chuck. Its prototype was a super-fast canary, possessing the ability to move at the speed of light, and it was extremely hyperactive! It could also accelerate its flight in mid-air, flying even faster.

"Wow wow wow! I feel great! That kind of urge to just run!"

The Yellow Bird's body made Max feel incredibly high, his behavior like someone with ADHD, completely unable to sit still, as if he had taken too many stimulants.

The moment it started running, it felt as if everything around it had been paused!

"Ahahahaha, awesome! Should I go race the Flash? Or race Superman! Hahahaha, woohoo~~"

A yellow streak of lightning swished off towards Metropolis!

Spins, jumps, it closes its eyes!

Trees, land, water surfaces—no place could stop it! It was so fast that Newton himself couldn't govern it!

On the bridge connecting Gotham to Metropolis, a yellow light flashed.

The drivers on the bridge all felt like they had seen something. They thought their eyes were playing tricks on them, feeling as if a yellow monster with a bird's face had greeted them in an instant!

However, this was all real, not a dream! The Yellow Bird had truly greeted all the cars on the bridge. The speed radar on the bridge, which had already gone off the charts, could prove it had been there.

The yellow light met no resistance and darted directly into Metropolis. For a time, a yellow figure, too indistinct to make out, appeared in multiple areas of Metropolis.

Wherever it passed, people jumping off buildings, victims of car accidents, and cats stuck in trees would all be saved by it as it passed by.

...The boss of LexCorp, Luthor, upon hearing this news, assumed it was that fellow Superman again, displaying his bleeding heart. So, he offered a high-value reward for a frontal photograph of this yellow figure, wanting to find out who it was.

Inside the Daily Planet, Metropolis's largest newspaper office, it was currently overcrowded, with most people rushing to meet their deadlines.

Regarding this suddenly appearing yellow figure, the Daily Planet immediately dispatched its ace agent! Uh, no, that should be its ace female reporter, Lois Lane!

She was assigned to track this yellow figure! For a character who was acquainted with Superman, even if she couldn't catch it, Superman should be able to, right?

Lois Lane brought her team: photographer Jimmy Olsen, and a rookie newcomer to the newspaper, Clark Kent.

…………

Meanwhile, having just saved someone who had jumped from a building, the Yellow Bird was currently dashing wildly in a riverside park!

"Woohoo~—This feeling of flying!"

At this terrifying speed, everything around it seemed incredibly slow. The Yellow Bird felt as if it were experiencing Earth Online in a paused world!

Delicious food on the streets could be eaten at will; unpleasant incidents could be stopped casually; the wallets of gang thugs would all be taken by it. Nothing in the world could stop it.

Except...

Beep-beep-beep-beep... Bang!

"Eh! Why is the time up so quickly!"

The Yellow Bird, still dashing across the water, suddenly transformed back into Max. His speed dropped drastically, and the enormous inertia sent Max skipping across the water surface like a stone!

This sudden flash of red light nearly scared the anglers fishing by the river. They looked intently and saw a person skipping on the water!

At this moment, they subconsciously thought Max was being dragged across the water by a fish!

However, he didn't skip for long. With the help of the water, Max's speed finally decreased.

"Plop!" Unprepared, Max fell into the river.

After flailing in the water a few times, Max surfaced: "Ptooey—Ah!"

"Hah-hooh! Hah-hooh! Good thing I fucking know how to swim! Otherwise, it would have been disastrous!"

"It must be because of the Yellow Bird. That body, with blood full of adrenaline, kept me in a hyper state, which is why I felt like time passed so quickly!"

However, Max felt his heart beating very fast now! This kept him full of electricity even in the water.

"Electric Current Propulsion! Fucking Electric Motor Butt! Human submarine, deploy!"

His two legs swung up and down crazily, propelling him forward at high speed. Even if Max wasn't the Yellow Bird, his physical fitness was already at a top-tier level.

When he started swimming, his speed was comparable to a launched torpedo!

When Max swam to the shore, the several anglers on the riverbank all gave him an admiring thumbs-up! They also kept shouting "Cool!" "So cool!"

The old man closest to him spoke:

"Hey, well done, young man! You swam really fast just now, like a superman!" (At this point in time, there was no better compliment than "Superman.")

"Thanks! Hey, grandpa, you've got a fish on!" Max responded with a smile, pointing to the fishing rod that was about to be pulled away, as a reminder.

"Aha! Jack, I'm gonna win again!" The angler grandpa excitedly began to reel in the fish.

...The grandpa named Jack nearby looked gloomy. Damn it! Not a single fish all morning!

Soaking wet, Max walked to the nearest public restroom.

He took out the dragon tooth hanging around his neck. A magic array floated up from the dragon tooth and instantly covered his entire body. With a flash of his figure, he was teleported by the dragon tooth into the "Tomb of the Living Dead."

————————

"Hello, sir, my name is Lois Lane, a reporter for the Daily Planet. I'd like to ask, you were saved by that 'Yellow Flash,' is that correct?"

Lois, with her exquisite makeup, inquired of the lucky individual who had been saved by the Yellow Bird. She wore a friendly smile, one that easily won people over. (It made Clark, standing beside her, stare blankly.)

The middle-aged man, who had already been interviewed by many people, pointed at Lois Lane in shock. He said with astonishment:

"You! I recognize you, you're the one who interviewed Superman! Hello, hello, my name is Custer."

Seeing Lois still smiling and looking at him, Custer immediately continued:

"Oh, yes, yes, yes! That flash, whoosh, it just passed by. By the time I reacted, a car accident had already happened where I was standing!"

"By the way, can what I'm saying be reported? Can you thank that Yellow Flash for me?"

Lois nodded with an unchanging smile:

"Yes, yes! Then can you recall the appearance of the Yellow Flash?"

"Well..." Custer looked as if he wanted to say something but was hesitant. "I'm afraid you won't believe what I'm about to say."

"It's okay, Custer. Just tell me everything you know, and I will report it truthfully. I guarantee it with my professional career!"

Lois's smile vanished, and she swore very seriously. Jimmy, carrying the camera behind her, nodded in deep agreement. When it came to being serious about the news, Lois had always been like this!

Clark stepped forward at this moment, revealing a sun-like smile, and patted Custer's shoulder: "You should believe her. She can even report on Superman, let alone other unbelievable things!"

Custer was persuaded by Clark and so revealed what he knew: "It was an angel with golden feathers! I remember now, my face was brushed by feathers. Those translucent golden feathers, I still haven't forgotten them to this day!"

"An angel? Really? Could it be Superman in a yellow suit?" Jimmy was the first to disbelieve, retorting subconsciously.

"See, I told you you wouldn't believe me! The previous reporters were like this too! Whenever I said I was saved by a yellow-feathered angel, they treated me like a madman! I was really carried away from there by wings!"

Custer, as if provoked, tried his utmost to prove himself, once again saying a lot about how it felt to be held in the bird's embrace at that time.

From the beginning of their meeting, Clark Kent had been using his super-hearing to monitor Custer's heartbeat. The facts proved that he was not lying.

"Could it really be an angel?" Clark also unconsciously voiced his thoughts.

Lois, however, believed it. In her little notebook, she wrote: Yellow Flash, suspected angel.

"If it were in the past, I definitely wouldn't believe it! But now that Superman has appeared, it's possible for an angel to appear too!"

"Okay, thank you, Mr. Custer. I wish you a happy life!"

Lois closed her notebook and, with her small team, drove to the next location. After all, they had started later than the reporters from other newspapers, so they were in a hurry.

Custer nodded and waved: "OK, you guys get busy! Remember to put what I said in the newspaper!"

...On the news station's dedicated van...

Lois was writing her article. Clark was driving and thinking about the possibility of the Yellow Flash being an angel. Or perhaps also an alien.

Jimmy was checking the film rolls; he needed to develop the photos required for the newspaper!

"Lois, who's next?"

"Zguy Jordan, a... poor soul who jumped off a building due to heartbreak."

"He jumped from the top of a 30-story building and was successfully saved by the 'Yellow Flash.' Wow, he's really lucky."
