I never even heard of this movie before, but it sounds interesting and I'm glad to be able to check it out with you. The landlord is really cool. I absolutely love the purple castle theme of the building. If only it wasn't so scummy.

Hey JV! Haha yes I am a girl. I’m so glad you liked this film, it’s a very interesting one. I saw it in a very small indie theatre in my city with my mom when it came out and it has stuck with me so much since then. So many people in the theatre burst into conversation after it ended about the film and everyone stayed and talked about the ending especially. To me, their performances feel so real and authentic, and it made this movie almost seem like a documentary. Like the kids killed this and carried this. The scene at the end when Moonee starts bawling really gets to me. The whole film she is really acting older than she is (I think she’s about 6 or 7) and at the end is the only time when she actually acts her age, when she’s scared and in distress. A lot of people were mad at the ending how they ran off to Disneyworld. I wish we knew what happened, but in all likelihood, she was probably put into foster care. I feel like them running to disneyworld might be just what Moonie imagined happened, which is why I think the music changed and the filming style changed. It really sucks because you can tell Hayley loves Moonee, but she is just such an unfit parent who lacks knowledge or skills to properly look after a child. And she’s so young. And Moonee was definitely not in a safe environment for children. Half of this movie was unscripted (especially all the scenes with the kids, they really were just playing around. The directors would just describe what they wanted to happen for the kids. There are bloopers where the actual kid actors are fighting over ice cream and being real kids, and shows some of their improv. Here is a link if anyone wants to check them out https://youtu.be/3vtYgW9CtTU). Fun fact: The woman who played Hayley (her name is Bria Vinaite) had never acted before and had zero experience with acting before this film! The director Sean saw her on instagram and she was just a girl with cool tattoos and hair that piqued his interest and he cast her and they trained her for this role. This was filmed at a real hotel that is about 6 mi from Disney World. A lot of the extras are real people who live in this area. I love this movie because I feel like it is a real case study on poverty and what living like this can do to children.
