They discovered the Rangers' identities after falling victim to one of Zedd's schemes. After thoroughly vetting them, he swore them to secrecy, and they became Power Rangers themselves soon after.

Power Rangers is like Doctor Who, the teams change over time because of storyline/behind-the-scenes reasons. while this is one of my absolute favorite pieces of Power Rangers media, it isn't canon to the main timeline. the timeline eventually incorporates things like the Ninjetti outfits and using Tengu Warriors but ultimately this movie stands on its own. and YES! the fight with the Stone Guardians was awesome! such good fight choreography despite it being layered in CHEESE lol
