I know this is an old post but I’m still gonna comment this, the ex wife of the guy who plays Boq has said that by the time Ariana came into the picture, herself and Boq had already split so she didn’t know where the whole “homewrecker” title towards Ariana came from.

1st, I love that yal are watching this together, your joint reactions are just the best!!
There are multiple books, and they are good, but very different from the movie/musical, much darker and way more adult... This movie is based on the musical, so it was split into 2 parts just like the musical has 2 acts, 1 before intermission and 1 after.
I love watching reactors tear up in that last song! It is a beautiful song to begin with, but Cynthia just friggin killed it.
When I was younger I never trusted Glinda, she gloated to the Wicked Witch of the West about the death of her sister right after it happened, then stole the witch's shoes and gave them to the child who killed her sister, the same child she manipulated into not giving the shoes back to their rightful owner, and sent to the "wizard" that she knew was a fraud, who then sent the child on a quest to kill the Witch of the West (which you cannot convince me that was not Glinda's plan to begin with) and then at the end, after the wizard accidentally leaves without Dorothy, Glinda just appears and says she could have gone back home all along (what is the word for this kind of child manipulation...).
Putting The Wizzard of Oz series aside (Glinda is worse in those books), we come to the Wicked series (or at least the 1sta book/musical/movie. Galinda/Glinda is at best a self-centered narcissistic bully, and at worst a vapid delusional social climbing fascism apologist villain. Just in this movie (not including her decline in part 2) her decisions she makes are done out of pure selfishness, or cruelty, or both. The 1 "redeeming quality" was her "friendship" with Elphaba, which only happened after she cleaned up the mess of her cruel prank on her roommate at the Ozdust ballroom, and that was not done because Galinda suddenly felt guilty and compassionate, but because she just learned that Elphaba got her into the sorcery class that was her life's dream. Then they go to the Emerald City and learn the truth about the fascist wizard together and immediately after the wizard and Morrible publicly insult and vilify Elphaba, Glinda gaslights her and ditches her for the comfort she gains by joining the fascists.

I love how Elphaba’s hairstyle loosens throughout the movie as she comes into her own! It’s something I didn’t notice the first time I watched this movie but after a couple of watches! Also elphaba’s cloak had a wings design on it as well!

The Wicked Witch of the East is her sister, Nessa. ( this isn’t a spoiler bc in the Wizard of Oz Elphaba says many times that it was her sister under the house. Also Nessa is wearing stripped socks throughout this film!)

This is my 11th time rewatching Wicked. I am obsessed. I’m so glad you all liked it, although I had no doubts you would!

Remember in the Wizard of Oz the Wicked Witch just wanted her dead sisters shoes back that Glinda gifted to Dorothy without her permission. I’d be mad too!
