Asking about discord
Added 2022-12-07 19:22:25 +0000 UTCMinasan! Happy Wednesday 💜 I wanted to chat with you all in the comments about Discord. I don’t have much experience with it and how reactors utilize it but I’d like to take the step and start using it more to chat with you all for the new year. What are your thoughts, experiences, and expectations of Disocrd and what would you like to see from my Channel? Let me know what you think!

My experience with discord has been good when the creator and mods are active. One of my personal favs has tabs for several things such as show suggestions, movie suggestions, and also tabs for whatever group of shows we are watching so we can chat. For example a daredevil section or chainsaw man. Some even have a dedicated "spoilers" section for those who are ahead or read the manga and want to talk about manga stuff. It's cool because people can just choose not to go into that section. Just be sure to label it manga spoilers or something. You can also do live chats for whatever teir would have that privilege

2022-12-07 19:43:49 +0000 UTCWhen it comes to servers normally run by creators, here’s what I see and would suggest: A read-only channel that acts as a welcome channel and has the rules for how to behave appropriately, another read-only channel where you post messages like “React with [x] if you like [y]” and use a bot that utilizes reactions to those messages to give people roles based on their interests and other basic stuff like ages or pronouns, a read-only channel for patrons where links to early access content is uploaded (this is helpful for those who check Discord more often than emails/Patreon), a channel just for patrons to discuss stuff that’s uploaded on Patreon but not publicly accessible, a read-only announcements channel where you post important announcements, etc. And then there are other channels for actual socialization like a general channel, individual channels for specific movies/shows/anime that may be common interests among the people in the server, and additional channels for each of those that are for book/comic/manga readers and/or spoilers for newly released content. I also usually see a channel for memes so that the general channel doesn’t get spammed with irrelevant images. You can also make separate channels for other basic stuff like pet pics, selfies, food pics, pics of collections people have, etc. And depending on the rules, some servers include additional channels for stuff like politics, venting, things that may be more sensitive content that others may not want to read. If you include a voice channel, a text channel dedicated to that would be helpful for people who may want to participate in a conversation that’s happening by voice chat but may not have a microphone themselves, they could use the text channel to talk instead and those who have microphones can still include them in their conversations and nobody is left out. Depending on how busy you and your server are, I’d also recommend having mods present to prevent spam, spoilers, and other bad stuff that can happen in bigger servers, and obviously those mods would need to be people you trust. Oh and sometimes I also see channels dedicated to feedback and suggestions from people in the server! I hope this all helps
