Thanks for this Abi! This is such a fun movie. The guy who betrayed Indy at the start by not throwing back the whip was played by Alfred Molina, Doc Ock from the spiderman movies. About the question of why the ark was in Egypt, Indy explained to the army intelligence guys that an Egyptian pharaoh attacked and took the ark placing it at Tanis, then the city was covered by a year long dust storm. Finally it does seem like the army makes the right call to lock the ark away. Also I love that the movie implies that there's just thousands of mystical artifacts locked away that the government just doesn't want to deal with.
