Everyone's a little bit of homelander! Given enough power to do literally whatever you want with no being able to physically stop can drive anyone with mad power. Hughie just needs to be honest and say that he's doing it for himself. He can't accept his own weakness and wants to think he's doing to save starlight when instead he's doing it to feel better about himself. Also A-train reminds me of those people back in school who, no matter what, would do anything to be apart of the popular crowd. He is by all definitions a coward.
