So.. this is based on the very popular American TV series "Jane The Virgin," which was loosely based on the 2002 Venezuelan telenovela "Juana la Virgen".
For those unfamiliar with the premise, basically, the female lead - in this case, Woori, played by Im Soo Hyang - vows to remain chaste until marriage, but ends up getting pregnant anyway, via an unfortunate mix-up during a medical examination.
Related hijinks ensue, not only with Woori's boyfriend (played by Shin Dong Wook), but with baby-daddy Raphael, played by Sung Hoon.
I actually did watch a couple of seasons of Jane The Virgin, because it had been available in-flight while I'd still been flying for work, a few years ago, and part of the appeal, for me, was that it felt so much like a kdrama, with a healthy helping of makjang, on the side.
Which I think means that it will translate well, since the source material had already struck me as being "kdrama-esque."
Of course, the devil's in the details, so we'll have to see how the execution actually shakes out. But if all goes well, it could be a fun heartfelt romp?
Show is 14 episodes, and will air from 9 May to 21 Jun on Mondays and Tuesdays, on SBS and Viki.
