2024-07-05 16:13:02 +0000 UTCI really like the montage in group 29. I'm gonna gush about it for a bit: You can really see how Julian's thoughts are weighing him down. And then there's the contrast between Julian's desire for an equal relationship and Joseph's desire for sex. It took me a while to get why I liked it so much, but I really like the fourth panel with Joseph's hand and the cigarette. Joseph is like the cigarette in that it provides that instant gratification that feels so good in the moment, but is ultimately bad for your long-term health. I also like the first two panels where we see Gabe shower, getting naked and being the most vulnerable, and also without the shackle (or protection?) of his cross necklace and all that it symbolizes. Gabe facing away from the necklace and Julian and us not seeing his face in the last panel really helps set the mystery of how he's feeling about his situation with his religion and his feelings about Joseph and Julian. I really like the first panel on group 30, which not only gives us our establishing shot for the scene but also really makes Julian as small as he's feeling given his relationship with Gabe. And then the last panel of the set, the "Ah fuck" is perfect. I don't know what Gabe's gonna do, but I think we can all relate to that experience of being about to start a serious conversation that we need to have but aren't yet ready for. At first I was like "I'm going overboard with this comic analysis, people are going to think I'm weird for thinking this hard about a comic", but fuck it. I like analyzing media and I think these pages are amazing! Whether or not you intended all of what I said above, that's what I got out of it and I think that speaks to your abilities as a storyteller. Especially since only two of these panels even have dialogue!
