Working on the next TWCD Chapter
Added 2020-08-02 17:04:17 +0000 UTCRight now, I'm in the process of moving from the outline version of the chapter to the 'rough draft' version. The process is kind of fiddly, as the screenshots of it show.
There's several steps. The outline itself is basically divided up into chunks, and the chunks into blocks, and the blocks into sections. A 'chunk' is a given setting point -- for example, 'Arrive at Citadel Chunk' covers everything from arrival to meeting the Council. Inside the chunk are blocks -- touch down, bullshit with kids, doing the scan. And then inside the blocks are sections -- for touching down, pre-launch talk, the ships landing, describing the landing area, media reactions, and actually getting out of the pinnace.
I tend to work this in layers, doing all the 'chunk' refining, then doing the blocks, then doing the sections, and finally doing little pieces to tie between sections ending and new blocks beginning with new sections.
I do this to (hopefully) avoid jumping around too much like I did in the first book and to maintain a smooth 'sweep' in reading.
As you can imagine, this is a lengthy process, and takes longer than just writing it all out from scratch, but prevents me from missing key points.
I don't have a good ETA on this yet, since work is erratic.
