Do You Watch These Kinds Of Videos?

Hey guys!

As mant of you may know, this year has been a major learning curve for me in terms of figuring out what I want and how to do things / balance interests and stuff. I thought it was necessary to preface this with that just so that no one thinks we're pushing crazy or anything or thinking some crazy busy shit.

Today, I'm just curious!

Anyway, as I've been way more chill and generally just in a far better space mentally and health wise these last 6 months or so (which has made YouTube and Patreon all the much easier), I've been working on some ideas I have for potential projects and other things I've been wanting to try for a while.

A few of you have heard me throw the terms 'video essay' or 'commentary' around a lot, and I feel like I'm not only well suited to the style, but it also interests me too.

That said, I'm not in a rush and certainly not looking to force anything, but I'd love to know whether or not any of you would ever be interested in watching this type of content from me? Whether it be gor K-Pop, anime, manga, K-Dramas...games even!

I'm asking this more in relation to YouTube, not Patreon, but because you guys are over here I thought I'd give you first dibs on a vote lmao.

Also, I'd love to know if you do already enjoy watching video essays or commentary type videos on topics that you're interested in from other creators.

Probably one of the biggest things I love about my own reactions these days is talking to you guys about my own interpretations of things and also seeing yours as well. I'd previously never really viewed my reactions all that positively because I'd felt like I was just a random guy that didn't really have anything special to add, and so the concept or idea of video essays or 'extra content' was more of an escape - an expectation I put on myself to be a 'real creator' and be more creative. Reactions will never go anywhere here, but there was a time I thought I was pretty bad at this, and it was even until recently!

Sounds a little ridiculous, but I realised that I love what we yap about here anyway, and regardless of whether some people think yaps are a positive for reactions or not, they're certainly a positive for a type of content I've wanted to try a bit more.

No pressure / hard feelings if you vote a certain way, but just let me know what you think! Thanks for the responses in advance y'all!

I think this would be a really good thing to add to your YouTube channel. This would incentivize Patreon subscribers to watch your channel as well, at least in my case. As far as I know, most if not all of your content is on the Patreon early so I have no need to check out the YT. This would definitely be something that would change that. As for content I would say that anime would be the most interesting for me. One idea that interests me is "How the manga and anime differ" for anime like Naruto or Bleach for example. This could be something that you can then do as you make your way through the manga, if you are still interested in that. Long story short: I would definitely be interested in anime essay content!

I’ve always enjoyed your video essays. You always do good research and add your opinions in a great balanced way. Personally I am always in favor of you doing essays on Kpop groups…but it would be cool if you did an essay on your favorite kdramas. Like what’s makes that kdrama above the rest….plot wise, writing, character development, symbolism, filming technique, acting etc…. It would also be fun to see what kdramas fall short…what they lack…what makes them annoying for the viewers etc…(looking at Doona lol) But you seem to have good instincts in what to do…so just go for it lol

I'm mostly only a fan of kpop and kdramas, with a few webtoons here and there like Weak Hero (which was also adapted into a kdrama) etc, so I can't really speak on any videos other than these, but Iike you, I love both talking and hearing people talk about things they're passionate/interested in, even if it's not profound or anything lmao. For example, with the Light Shop kdrama recently, I feel like these types of shows could be great to do commentary videos on, simply because there's SO MUCH to yap about lol. I’m subscribed to channel on YouTube that does commentaries/recaps for each episode of a drama/show they watch on their patreon, they recently did Love in The Big City, and I loved those videos so much! Obviously not expecting you to do that as well as I imagine this would be incredibly time consuming, but I’m already looking forward to all the new shows we can watch together next year, as well as any commentaries you may decided to make! I feel like there's gonna be some good ones! 😊

The yapping is the best part! It’s one of my favorite parts of your reactions. I like it when you pick up on details and relate them to the themes of the show. You’re very good at nuance, trying to understand where every character is coming from, and also empathizing with them. But you’re also funny and make the yap sessions entertaining. It’s a great balancing act, tbh. And I’ve always loved video essays (very guilty of watching 7 hour video essays about shows/games I’ve never seen or played 😂) so video essays from my favorite yapper would be a treat! 💕 Also, gameplay videos/streams when????? 👀👀👀👀
