Hey everyone!
Just popping in to grab some hopefully useful 'data' I guess you could call it on what your general preferences are regarding videos that deal with sharing one's 'experience' or 'analysis' of a subject / topic.
I'm approaching some content now where I'm looking to share thoughts on anime / k-drama (for example) to YouTube, but I'm curious about what you're more inclined to feel 'connected' to:
1. A relatively unscripted, chill video sharing 'thoughts' / 'analysis' of a show / topic
or
2. A precisely written & scripted video essay analysing a show / topic
I've got ideas for shows / topics like One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, It's Okay To Not Be Okay, Lovely Runner (etc.,), but for those of you that watch this kind of content, have you ever found yourself preferring to listen to something like a tangent out of one of the reactions or instead a very structured video with a more rigid flow?
Let me know below!
There's no right or wrong answer as I think there's merit to both and I actually think both of them work, but I would like to see what the general consensus is!
Thanks for your time!
~ Lok

2024-05-27 08:23:58 +0000 UTCI enjoy videos that have a middle ground between scripted and unscripted content. I'll give one reason I dislike and like each format and what a middle ground example would look like. I enjoy a video essay from time to time, but it can sterilize the content creator's opinion. I don't get any raw feeling and it's almost always too analytical. However, it can help explain difficult concepts or ideas through well-thought-out visuals and descriptions that aren't easily conveyed otherwise. Unscripted ramblings can be engaging but can be frustrating for several reasons: long pauses, thought circles, and shallow engagement with the topic. The biggest benefit to this format though is the enthusiasm you get from the creator. A lot of people vibe with this and that's why people enjoy Streams. And some of the things I've listed can be mitigated through editing but that leads me to my third point, the middle option. Go unscripted and film yourself rambling and get that passion but when you come across a thought, take time to mold that, find examples, and edit in some good visuals to help. You can even include some reactions on stream. But take all that rambling and turn it into a structured video. I think this is a good example from your channel of what I'm talking about. it's a little bit on the unscripted side but it's got an idea it's trying to convey and could have easily been a more scripted video essay. I'm assuming this was some rambling you cut from a stream but it has some visuals; could use some more. You even edited a reaction of yours into it around 6 minutes and 31 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iynmdixYcRs I could give examples of other content creators but I feel like I explained myself well enough.

2024-05-26 22:57:07 +0000 UTCI like both options or a mix of the two. Basically what I am saying is... if you record it, I will watch it regardless of the format 😅

2024-05-26 22:37:04 +0000 UTCYeahh this kind of style and topic I find interesting and engaging, and I like how it was succinct as well~ some video essays can easily purposelessly ramble Thanks for deciding my dinner time video to watch too 😂

2024-05-26 22:09:46 +0000 UTCboth can work pretty good because my favorite parts of the videos are both when you analyze so fluently with ur knowledges or when you malfunction sometimes

2024-05-26 21:59:30 +0000 UTCThanks for the encouragement Nikii! Yeah I guess both have their merits but I'm still testing some stuff out right now so we'll see what vibes the best! Haha

2024-05-26 21:25:20 +0000 UTCI like the idea of you going in-depth like you do in your reactions to It's Okay Not to Be Okay and The Lovely Runner until you stop yourself. That's when I wish it were a livestream, although I have no idea how to participate in one.😊

2024-05-26 21:24:06 +0000 UTCI wouldn't mind either way tbh. I'd say go with what you're more comfortable with 🙌🏻

2024-05-26 21:19:20 +0000 UTCHere's a reference of what a Lok 'structured' video looks like (K-Pop), but excuse the quality because it was one of the first! https://youtu.be/TT8LjCLwjiY?si=hxPVfVHdoxmHRXXo

2024-05-26 21:13:24 +0000 UTCI've got a fewwwww up as far as K-Pop stuff is concerned man but this was like super early in the video essay exploration era haha. Here's probably the best example! https://youtu.be/TT8LjCLwjiY?si=hxPVfVHdoxmHRXXo

2024-05-26 21:08:51 +0000 UTCOoooh this is super helpful thanks Harvey! I always assumed the chill vibe ones would be background noise territory (I do the exact same lmao!) but I haven't watched many video essays myself let alone tried them, so this was super helpful to get another perspective!

2024-05-26 21:08:31 +0000 UTCI like just putting the chill vibe ones for background watching, but the video essays are the most interesting and the videos I end up remembering and crave more of - I love hearing other people's in depth perspective and interpretation on things!

2024-05-26 21:06:42 +0000 UTCYeah it's probably definitely a time/place thing hey! I'm keen to try both out for sure!

2024-05-26 21:05:43 +0000 UTCSo, I would say either suits me depending on when I watch them, but since it's you I would be curious to see a more scripted one ! We already get your rants and thoughts tumbles during the reaction after all.

2024-05-26 21:04:51 +0000 UTCAnd if you like a mix of both just go ahead and give this comment a little heart instead. Wouldn't let me add another option for some reason :'')
