We have a decent pool of results to look at and I think the majority of people who wanted to vote have. From the votes it looks like things have held fairly standard and are about where I expected them to be.
The majority of you are using wired VR in some form. A nearly equal number of you have a Quest. A significant number of you aren't viewing content on a VR device of any kind and there are some outliers with the other forms of VR, which I totally get having had Samsung Gear VR and the HP windows mixed reality headset myself.
So what does that mean going forward.
- I need to continue to focus on high end VR experiences.
- There is a large enough sample size of you to focus specifically on making wireless Quest versions of unity content.
- I won't forget about the folks that like the content even without the VR gear. In fact a lot of content past and present still works great on screen that's not attached to your face.
Overall, I'll be sure that as much content as possible supports these main 3 groups and to push for universal platform support whenever possible. That's most challenging on the gaming side, especially when controllers are brought into the mix, but a potential solution there is to continue to pepper in some hands-free content.
The next big step will be the vote for content format and direction in 2022. That poll will be coming out at the start of next month. We'll revisit the past projects and potential future ones based on current resources and opportunities at the next support milestone.
It's going to be a lot of fun to not only imagine where things can go from here, but to work together to actually make it happen!
