Yes, and no... in theory anything is possible of course. The main reason why I use my own characters for these types of illustrations is because I want the focus to be on the situation at hand... Inserting popular characters to outlandish situations can detract from my intended point. Furthermore, it doesn't always make sense to put certain characters in these situations. Can you imagine Cloud and Tifa trying to have sex while aerial silk dancing? The response would be "why are they doing this??" rather than "what a cool idea!" Illustrations that carry intent need to be understood, first and foremost, and when it comes to hentai, sometimes the simple approach works best... then again, I'm not against going all out with fan art, it just needs to make sense to me.

Shouldn't it possible - in theory - to design the situation first, then insert whatever character ? As long as the pose/situation isn't imposed (like in the case of a commission for example) and you're free to do whatever you want with it ? Or is it just a case of having less inspiration with characters that aren't your own ? Then I suppose my next question would be are there characters out there you enjoy enough to pull all the stops with them as you would with OCs ?

2016-05-21 03:56:16 +0000 UTCAh yea... this is why I usually like to use my own characters in my illustrations. It's easier to design images like this when you design around an idea, or situation. Sometimes your options are somewhat limited when designing around a fan favorite type of character.
