the halin! they're technically the second short race i started designing, the moths were first, but the halin were the first i intended for actual worldbuilding. the moths/lepin were migrated over later.
- halin are the most populous and widespread race in this world. with their fur being able to cover different lengths of their body according to the climate, they can handle hot and cold environs pretty handily.
- there are three main kinds of halin and they each live in different areas. there are overarching similarities between all three's cultures and trading between each other but with notable differences in their appearances and lifestyles. they are all rather playful and curious with a love of dance and music
- plains halin sport curly, wooly fur and darker skin tones, looking more like sheep people. they use the large swathes of flat land for farming mostly and act as a hub for gatherings and trading with other halin and the other races. while they trade their crops year round, they also trade their wool and wool products after growing it long through the harsh winters.
- forest halin come with deer like features and fur patterns. they focus on foraging berries, nuts, and (non-sentient) mushrooms throughout the forests and also growing orchards for fruit. they also process them into various juices, wines, butters, creams, and even potions. their most unique and sought after product is the asum nut, with a property that boosts circulation which is useful for healing potions (and sex aids)
- alpine halin are the closest to actual satyrs, with their goat-like features. the most nimble of the halin, they can scale sheer cliff faces with ease. their lifestyle is more nomadic than the others, traveling with and shepherding large creatures they gather milk, fur, and leather from. there are more permanent settlements that they process the materials at and use as a base for trading the leftover meat and animals with the midin. their lifestyle is rough and they are the most hardy and combat capable of the halin.
- halin are vegetarian for the most part, lacking means for processing animal proteins. there are some rare halin that can though, mostly alpine halin, that are born with sharp teeth and the ability to eat meat. they tend to become a LOT stronger than other halin and a bit battle crazy, which is helpful for protecting other halin from monsters. some halin give them the nickname "haolin"
rather lengthy lore dump, but i been planning these guys the longest. just one more race that i have kinda planned out to go!
there is another that i've had thoughts about but i gotta figure out how to make them more than just pseudo-kobolds...
