Yes Mew is very protective over Mewnew.
Continuing on for the introduction Mewnew arc though and a bit of a call back for one of the early points to dailymewtwos. Newtwo and Mewtwo had agreed to be in each others company ( why they're even together in the blog in the first place ) is to learn from one another.
That'll be a prominent thing in the next part planned!
