I am absolutely loving your reaction to this movie! I didn't see an issue with how the relationship dynamics played out in this specific movie. My take is that Fiyero's marriage was essentially an arranged situation—it wasn't his idea, and he was just going along with it. The way Glinda sang that song after her and Fyero's private conversation suggested she knew he didn't reciprocate her feelings; she was in denial. Furthermore, both Elphaba and Fiyero believed a future together was impossible, leading them to stay apart despite their underlying feelings. They didn't start a physical relationship until his current one was, in essence, already over (even if only by a few hours). Was it the 'best' way to handle things? Probably not, but I'm definitely not upset about it in the context of the story.
