3 ways you'll thrive after 5e (script)

I don’t know who needs to hear this, and maybe it’s just for myself, but - we’re going to be okay without playing 5e.

Whether it’s because of the OGL changes, hearing good things about another system, or it’s just time to try something else out, you are not missing out. 5e will still be there for you should you decide you want to go back to it.

Hello there, my name's Bonus, and today I’m going to give you 3 reasons why your decision to play something other than 5e is a good one.

I want to preface the video by saying I am not trying to convince anyone who wants to continue to play 5e to swap - the decision is yours to make, regardless of what is happening. With that out of the way, let’s begin.

You’re about to level up.

By learning a new TTRPG system, you will become a better roleplayer. Each system has a unique take on storytelling, and will give you new tools to use in any game you play.

For example, by playing Ironsworn, you’ll gain valuable experience with creating narratives on the fly - whereas if you play a system like Call of Cthulu, you’ll begin to embrace difficult topics such as permanent madness and character death that are often shied away from in 5e.

With a new experience comes a greater knowledge of how you handle different situations as a player. And as we know from 5e, the more experience you get, the more you level up!

New heroes will join your party!

Whether or not you’re moving from 5e with your old group, or into a new one, you will meet new people.

Whether it’s the content creators you watch to learn more about the system, or the online communities you join, or the forums you look up a rule on - there are lots of people out there who play games other than 5e, and by playing something else you’re giving yourself the chance to meet new people, and maybe even make new friends!

If you’re interested, there are loads of folks over on my discord who play different games and would be happy to help find the right game for you! Feel free to join using the link in the description below!

There are new adventures to be had.

It’s true that 5th edition is a ruleset that’s been home-brewed to fit lots of settings, but the majority of people have still only ever played 5th edition in a high fantasy setting.

By playing a different system, you’re directly opening yourself up to start on an adventure unlike anything you’ve seen before!

Fancy going on a honey heist as a bear? Or how about being a thirsty sword lesbian? Or maybe you just want to create your own town at the end of the world a spend a quiet year watching them all perish… well, there are systems for that!

Much like going to another country opens you up to new music, languages, and culture, by choosing a system that directly engages with another setting you’re giving yourself the opportunity to be a more imaginative and dynamic player.

I’m not sure what I want yet. But, whether you want to be a TTRPG tourist and try a few different systems, or you are looking for your new roleplaying forever-home; I think we’re going to be okay leaving 5e behind.

It’s time to have some new experiences, meet some great people, and have lots of fun. We’ve got this.

Want some tips to find a new system? I’ve got you covered right here. In the meantime, be kind to one another, and I’ll see you in the next one.
