Re: The 1.1 Open gaming Licence
Added 2023-01-11 06:44:06 +0000 UTCHey folks!
As you can imagine, since the news regarding the upcoming updates to the Open gaming licence that I have used in much of my content, I have been concerned.
What is the problem?
The leaked 1.1 licence (or anything close to it) are unacceptable to me, as they are to many in the community.
As I understand it, the new licence:
- Requires me to give wizards a claim to my content going forward.
- Could prevent the VTTs I use running the game (killing a lot of my content and all of our ability to play)
- Invalidates the old version of the OGL, meaning I could not continue to offer my already published work, and might have to remove my old content.
What does this mean for BonusActionRainbow?
I have to change the way I make content. Unless the OGL1.0a remains as it has been for the last 20 years, I will not be using any new OGL.
Going forward, I ask that you understand the difficulties this presents to a small creator like me, and that you work with me.
This will affect some of my planned content. However, I still intend to produce regular quality content for the TTRPG community.
How can you help?
You can help in one of two ways.
- Keep supporting me like you already do. Keep using and enjoying the content I make and sharing it about, telling me how you use it, and being part of the community. Knowing folks care makes all this worth it.
- Support the community as a whole by reading up on the situation and being knowledgeable about it. And please, consider signing this: https://www.opendnd.games/
- I suggest downloading my work from wherever you have access and making sure you have it.
In light of this, I have put some of my DMsGuild content on sale for the next few days (until the 13th). So feel free to use these special discount links until then.
