Social Combat for 5e

Thanks to your feedback from a recent poll I decided to showcase some of the other content I intend to make once we reach our next patron goal!
What is Social Combat?
Have your players ever wanted to petition the king? Or maybe your players needed to defend themselves in court? Ever wanted to change hearts and minds, but didn't want it to come down to the roll of a single persuasion check?
Well that's where the rules for Social Combat for 5e come in!
In this supplement, you'll have the toolkit for social combat that enables you to create impactful NPCs whatever their challenge rating, and encourage your players to collaborate to achieve their goals.
There's more to come...
This document is still a work in progress. I intend to add:
- Flow charts / player aids for ease of play
- Example encounters you can run in your games
- A video guide explaining how to use the rules with a complementary actual play.
- NPC guide to build worthy opponents with unique move sets (The noble stat block can finally be useful!)
- Entire adventures based around an epic social encounter
- Additional rules, feats, character options, and manoeuvres are all possible too!
Lets work together!
However, I can only make it robust enough to do these things with your help.
The supplement has been playtested with my group during our live-playthrough of Strixhaven (The link jumps straight to the social encounter).
NOTE: This playthrough only lasted 1 round, was a bit clunky because I had only just learnt the rules myself, and even used slightly different rules for their specific encounter, but it's there for reference if you'd like it.
Also this was the first time this group of players used these rules, and I think they took to them pretty well overall!
As you can read and watch, though, it's not perfect just yet, so I am asking for as much feedback as possible from you all before I release this for public review later on.
So, to help me, I'd love to know the following:
- Do you believe such a ruleset is a good addition for 5e?
- Have you, or will you, try playtesting this?
- Is this easy to understand? If not, what could be simplified or clarified?
- Do terms like Presence, Debate, Mock, Defend, Finish, etc. feel appropriate?
- What do you like most about the supplement?
- What do you wish the supplement expanded upon?
- Is there anything you feel is missing from the supplement?
- Any other thoughts?
Regardless, I hope such a change in content is welcome. I'm very passionate about giving folks the tools to tell the best stories possible, and absolutely love making content for you all.
So thanks again for the all the support, and I cannot wait to hear your feedback.
