1:27:00 - I like your ideology, Steve, and, as a humanist, I highly agree that that's how it should be for the benefit of society. But it's not reality. (I know you know this, but I want to pontificate.)
I'm not talking about just the systemic issues that prevent people from advancing. Too many people with advantages and privileges don't want people without to obtain them. The mentality is well demonstrated by Syndrome in The Incredibles. "When everyone is super ... no one is."
More people with better education and opportunities means more competition. More competition means people have to up there game. The bottom 5% of white guys don't like "losing" out to higher skilled women and minorities, so they oppose Affirmative Action (aka "Reverse racism") and DEI.
A better educated and highly skilled society is indeed beneficial for everyone, but we are our own worst enemy. We compare ourselves to others, usually measuring worth by money because were a capitalistic society and money is too easy a proxy to rely on.

I don't think it will be Joe Public doing something stupid with AI, it will be corporations. The bottom line trumps ethics for far too many executives and corporations. Many won't be specifically unethical, but they just won't think about it.

You say "Don't build a killer robot" but I fully expect AI operated drones to select targets and attack during war times.

I would argue that there is greater chance of successful intervention if we pluralize "god". :D
