Tonight 's live on YouTube

Dr. Christine shared her story of survival, and being drawn in by a false prophet on our podcast. You can find her interview with Lauren here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYXYx0I8Tjs&t=714s

Dr. Christine Marie lives in the community of Short Creek where many members of the FLDS faith live, and where Warren Jeffs once served as prophet.  Her work was featured in the recent Discovery Plus documentary "Keep Sweet". We are grateful to have her as a guest tonight to share her efforts, and to answer questions.   This will start at 7 pm pacific time, (8 Mountain, 9 Central, and 10 Eastern).   Leave your questions for Dr. Christine in comments below, or join our live chat on YouTube or Facebook tonight.

I struggled with this interview. Intellectually, I understand why hearing their point of view would be of value. But it was extremely hard to listen to anyone praise Warren Jeffs, and negate so many survivor stories and not be challenged. In the end, to be honest, I don’t care what these women have to say. That said, they do need to be studied by professionals. I’d love to hear Dr. Matthias unravel the psychology.

Gut feeling ?

Me too, not sure why though.

I just watched. I am no fan of warren Jeff’s to put it lightly. These women are in flds because of religious conviction. The outside world only hear about the bad things and what they see on reality tv. I do not know them but I would probably love them and learn new things. Many who become flds are lds who study Joseph smith and compare it to current manifestation and decide that it is not true to the original faith. Mostly this life is lived because of how Joseph smith taught and lived his life. It is not about men one day deciding they wanted more wives. I am a nevermo but have paid attention to current, post Mormon and pleural belief that I understand why. I would never choose to do it but it is a viable and beautiful way of life if lived well. I have so much respect for dr Christine for having an open mind. Sometimes having one friend in the “other” camp makes all the difference.

I had trouble watching this live as it kept freezing on me and for some reason there was a lot of back ground noises. A few things I picked up on were the credit cards comments, that Dr Christine was surprised one of the ladies had so many and assumed it meant she had freedom or something to that effect. I don’t think having a large amount of CC on hand is a sign of freedom and not being tied down. I was surprised that they see Warren Jeffs so differently than the courts and general population does. Are they denying what the woman had said happened to them when they were underaged? I was hoping that they could explain infidelity within a marriage. All in all it was hard listening to their support of WJ. I did enjoy hearing that the women still supported and were connected to their children that left, and that they were free to leave and have their own lives. I would have loved to hear more about the one woman’s husband and her sister wives and more of that dynamic. It doesn’t appear to me that these women are no where near or like Lori. They didn’t talk about visions and future events and didn’t sound crazy. They sounded secure in theirselves and strong. They are correct regarding abuse. It doesn’t just happen in their religion, it happens in all walks of life, from those in religion, no matter which, and those who have never been in religion or have no sense of it. Abuse is everywhere, not just in church. It can happen in families, schools, church, work, social, streets, government and all the cracks in between. And it’s just not men who are abusers, and it’s not just women who are abused. I am still scratching my head on being attracted to a man who collects wives. It’s kind of like telling your first child that he/she is going to be a big brother/sister, and how they will have someone else to play with and love, and mommy and daddy are going to love the baby and you are too, and that you can’t really play with the baby until it gets older and that the new baby is going to be a lot of work and you get to help out, and that the baby will need lots of special attention and we will be so busy and tired. Now turn that around and have the husband come home and say I found myself a new woman to join our family, she will be a helpmate for you, and will need lots of attention from me, and you can help. I wonder how that conversation plays out. Wish they would have touched on that.

Honestly I’m with Lynnette Coster. I was planning on listening to the livestream but I had to log off as soon as it was mentioned that these women were Warren Jeff supporters. It would be like interviewing followers of Chad and Lori without having an honest discussion about the evil destruction and harm caused by that cult. I just couldn’t.

Shannon Farrey

Warren Jeffs is not in prison for tiddlywinks violations. Sorry. I can’t with this.

Lynnette coster

How is that people fall into these cults? I understand the ones that were raised in it, they think it’s normal. Do they make their own members by having children? I think it would be pretty hard to recruit new people who weren’t raised this way. What makes women stay? And why is it that there aren’t cults where women have more than one husband? Is it against the law to have more than one spouse? If the husband dies, who gets his social security? How does inheritance work in a multiple wife situation? Who is responsible for the children? Each mother for her kids only? Jealousy must be rampant amongst the children and mothers. And one last question. Is there ever any violence between the wives? Oh one more. Do the women have any say on who the guy brings into the household. I’m scratching my head trying to understand the mindset of infidelity being acceptable and so open. Thank you!

Nora Ann

I would be interested to know if the FLDS women that Dr. Christine works with know of the Daybell case and their thoughts on it. Also, what are Dr. Christine’s thoughts on Lori Vallow Daybell?

I am so excited for this live! I am a never Mormon, however I have always found myself drawn to the sweet women of the FLDS and to Dr Christine. I just love her heart and ONE DAY I WANT To come and spend a couple of weeks with these ladies and families and just do whatever they need help with! I will even scrub toilets 🤓. I just want to love on these ladies and their families♥️

Gina McKay

Dear Lauren-I watched "Keep Sweet' on Discovery + last night and they showed a clip of you reporting on a mayoral election (debased campaign signs) in an FLDS town.
