Cane Water Filter/Siphon

I made a water filter from loops of cane to siphon clean water from dirty water. Engineers at MIT ( https://meche.mit.edu/news-media/mit-engineers-make-filters-tree-branches-purify-drinking-water) had already used pine branches to filter water and showed that they remove 99% of harmful bacteria. I basically did that but also made it into a siphon as the xylem act like small hoses and are able to lift the water up and over obstructions provided there is an overall height difference. Much appreciated.

No, they're all kiln fired. Unfired clay dissolves in water. Fired clay is still porous but needs glassing or burnishing to become completely water proof. So terracotta makes good filters. Thanks.

I think the filter gets rid of bacteria whereas the boiling gets rid of viruses. Much appreciated.

Ps. Are those pots non baked? That they let the water through?

How can this be? Is the water of such quality that you only need to siphon/filter it? I learned that, even with an "standard" syphon/filter (charcoal+sand+pebbels) you still need to boil the water before one can drink it.. am I missing something! Great video as always!
