That's an interesting take on it. Furry "racism" can make for interesting explorations--rather than broad divisions of about 5 or 6 skin colors, you have fifty to a hundred sentient species, so you would likely get pockets of speciesism similar to how America views immigrants before they become integrated. There was a time when everybody railed against the Irish coming to America, when Italians were looked down on, and so forth. I feel like you'd have pockets of this here and there, but I haven't gone so far as to imagine whether one species had a particular advantage or disadvantage. When you look at some of the history of this country, it's easy to imagine skunks being denied jobs because of the smell, or wolves because of their predatory nature. People might picket bunnies moving into a neighborhood because they have too many kids and abuse the school system. Not all of this would be society-wide, but you could easily see it happening in neighborhoods.

Essentially it's about a human who is flipped into a parallel universe where wolves have evolved rather than humans. One of the main Characters John - a wolf - admitted that although he was American, his ancestors had been slaves. And when slavery was abolished there was no way to identify people how had been slaves.. Fur color and species just did not come in to it. So apart from accents, and certain geographical groupings of species, it be very difficult to know who came from where.
