Quick favor to ask:

Attention nerds- I mean mage apprentices!

We want to hear from YOU!

In your opinion, what are two -must have- spells that a mage apprentice should learn?

Let us know by commenting on this post, and you never know, you might cast it in-game! :D

Cheers!

Conjure and Fireball

Here are some propositions for basic spells. In my opinion they should all be utility spells as an apprentice is normally going to work and serve before he gets rewarded. Telekinesis Transmute Cleaning spells Reassemble (broken glass or vases) Levitate / Fly / Blink

Kerryberry

To my knowledge, its to learn defense arts as mages as mostly glass cannons if they are not battle mages. Rock armor is a must due to being able to summon armor to defend against any warriors that get up close to strike a mage down. Second would be either creating summons to soak damage so a spell can be summoned, or Petrify to attack and run away from danger.

Reed Depew

Practicality is a must for wizards , so I would say Prestidigitation is a must. That covers all the telekinesis, magic fingers, minor cleanings, and the like. And the second is as our guy sees a fight or four fireball is definitely a must. Or lightning bolt. Or acid arrow. Anything that gives our guy an advantage in a fight. Preferably by making bad guys hesitant to attack at all!

Kessler Hilton

Though choice. Well, I think these should be spells that everyone would identify a wizard to have. Not so much something from D&D. First, I would expect a wizard to have the ability to teleport from one place to another. Second, you can't get away from the image of a wizard throwing a fireball at something or somebody.

Pyrites1

Invisability ofc, how else to peek into the girls lockerroom unnoticed?

Dablue

definitely magic missile, and probably either mana shield or fireball.

Mooboy2000

Perhaps some flavor of prestidigitation, flashy hand spells that any apprentice can safely practice for hours.

A water spell (for obvious reasons) and a telekenetic spell (for even more obvious reasons) >:3c

Tahldon

Fireball :D

MANITU Games

How much of this game is naughty?

As stereotypical as it sounds... sorry, fireball is pretty much a gimme for mages...

Joe Mon

Cough ... Grow or shrink ')

DVK

a cloaking spell and some kind of arcane bolt

Michael Hawk

Magic Missile! How else can he defend himself against the darkness? And... Invisibility. So he can guard the women's locker room or the medieval equivalent thereof. ;P

Some sort of healing spell and then either a utility spell like Mage Hand or an attack spell like Fireball

ohoh now you startet something hihi. If you ask me it depends a bit more on the background. I mean if im the old Wizard full of wisdom i wouldnt be this stupid to teach a 16 year old Appentrice how to cast a fireball. We all know where this would end? It also depends on the world it self. Is it very dangerous outside of citys? Maybe i would teach him some defensive spells like a shield. It also depends on what type of appentrice we have here? Is it an student which is here since 20 years (yes mostly studiying magic takes centurys if ever dine) or is it a "freshman" ? So many questions so less time to ask. If you can/want to ignore those things i say before and want a more generell answer i would say yes FIREBALL is always a good thing but i would also lern something defensive as i say like a shield or make the floor freeze sleepery here eh? hihi

Kirion

Mage Hand is the first thing that comes to mind. It's very basic, has practical uses (manipulating objects from afar) as well as more explicit uses ("manipulating" "objects" from afar :P).

Hansbert Emmer

Although, now that I think about it. Mage Hand is good for giving a sneaky-sneaky grope.

Yalc

Magic Missle, an oldie but a goodie. And then of course... ummm... what's it called? Ohh, I can't remember! It's on the tip of my tongue, I know it... Oh, yeah! FIREBALL!

Yalc

Any spell that 'accidentally' misfires and removes an article of your cute instructor's clothing is a MUST for the beginner mage

Journeyman

Yes. Magic missile is a good suggestion. But let's all be real here. There's one spell that EVERY self-respecting spellcaster should have. FIREBALL! :3 ^^

Zehrox

Magic Missile!

identify and detect magic. Decipher script probably, mage hand, some protection from ...,

ddf

I think an apprentice could maybe start with an attack spell and a defensive/healing spell. For example it could start off being a type of cure or shield type spell and a type of elemental attack such as earth manipulation or wind manipulation. I like how in the prologue you classify several different types of magic users (warlock, sorcerer and wizard), and think it would be really cool if you all allow the player to choose between different classes to become an apprentice in a certain discipline. Future thoughts I know, but I think you guys have already weaved an awesome story that could take on these elements. Don't mind my rant. I'm just really excited that you guys are working on FA again and I can't wait to continue on with this great game.

If you'd want to be traditional, I would say some sort of small raw energy blast like magic missile and light spell like lumos from Harry Potter. But I guess it depends on the Outlook of the society. If they're more focused on utilitarian uses of magic, then it may be something like telekinesis and minor repair. I say a light generating spell first because that would teach them to bring focus on harnessing the energy into a focused sphere which would generate light just because of it being focused energy. Then magic missile because it's at heart a blast of raw energy. Essentially the next step in the light spell. Then any other manipulation of that magic can grow from there.

Voodoo Monkey

Invisibility and dominate person

Geralt0fRivia

Frostbolt, frostnova

Robert Russell

I'd say first is a charm(lust) spell that adds to a instructors liking of apprentice but doesnt always work and can actually cause it to be worse (Ie they get mad that he used it on them ) . the 2nd spell would be a x-ray vision spell that can see through clothes or disguises, again he could get in trouble for using it on instructors if they find out or maybe some would like it (dark elf maybe even the general has a side that wishes to be taken forcefully that cant happen as she is the toughest)

jeff turner

heal and invisibility

EtherWei

Unseen servant and shield would probably most useful to an apprentice

Eldritch Wizard

Fireball and heal

Just plain ol invisibility???

Garmentory Expelliarmus and Lewd Vision (like x-ray vision)

Blood Dragon

Something like Unseen Servant has some story potential. Like in that Disney movie.

Stijn Van Hove

Do you mean, from other sources? Like D&D or historical grimoires? Illusion spells, even static, minor ones affecting only one sense for a short time, are always useful and versatile (disguises, distractions, etc.) Telekinetic spells are always a priority on my list, for the same reason. Even picking up 1 lb or less from a short distance is highly useful (to open doors, steal a key from a jailer, etc.)

TeofiloHurtado

Maybe something that has to do with the elements. You know like fire, water, earth, wind... (now that I think about I might be thing of Avatar the last airbender) :P MAGIC MISAEL!!! xD
