Monthly Charge: Yay or Nay?

Hey Apprentice!

We are thinking of switching the way we charge from per 2 Weeks to Monthly Charge. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US, and as our Patron, we want to hear your thoughts and feedback on this potential change.

+ WHY ARE YOU SWITCHING TO MONTHLY?

Our Patreon is growing every month, which we are thankful for! Though sadly for the past couple months, numerous naughty Patrons are jumping in on our Patreon to enjoy our "Patron-only" content, then delete their pledge before they are charged.

Which is unfair to those of you that are genuinely supporting us. It is also unfair to us, because it takes away our time when we try to welcome them and to just see them disappear without a word...

- By switching to monthly, it may give us the option to "Charge Up-front" to avoid frauds.
- We will have a reliable amount coming in every month, bringing financial stability to AGL studios. (yay)

+ HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU?

By charging monthly, there are changes that may affect your pledges.

Sample: Upon the changes, if you are still in the Knight tier $5 Reward, it will remain in the same tier (but it won't be the same reward).

In order to receive the same reward, we will be creating another reward tier that is equivalent to the current Knight tier $5 per 2 Weeks, which will be Knight tier $10 per Month

- YOUR OPTION: Up your pledge to what your monthly cap currently is.

We also feel that for new people thinking about signing up, it's much easier to understand the straight-up monthly subscription concept.

This will not affect our content update, we will still be delivering weekly content.

That's about it, Please let us know if you have ANY questions, concerns, advice, suggestions, etc!

Cheers!

Hey cool! Thanks for pre-ordering and welcome aboard, Robert! :D

I've been on the fence on the patreon. I did preorder the game and bought a bunch of the art set things. Though I do prefer the monthly with pay up front; to the pay every 2 weeks if I don't get cold feet. :P

I support Patreons on various styles: 1) monthly, 2) every 2 weeks, 3) charger per update (max of 4 per month). I agree with the benefits you will have by switching to the monthly format. It will be easy math for new Patreons. Moreover, since you are dedicated to weekly posts & engagement (and don't charge per upload or distribute exclusive rewards through download links) the monthly charge fits better. Lastly, I am always in favor of predictable income: so having a monthly budget (instead of a fluxuating 2 week check) would bring stability to AGL.

Good to know you are on board, Teo. We'll make sure you are sorted out when we make the transition. Cheers! -din

Dear Jesika and Dinmoney: I'm ok with that! I'm really sorry there are some people leeching the wonderful things you do (sadly, the same thing happens to many other creators on Patreon). I will try my best to keep supporting you; just let me know when I have to switch my pledge to the new format!

Hey thanks for the feedback JD2! I am taking this as you are against us working on Paramedium for the game jam? Let me assure you we have 100% plans to continue working on Faulty Apprentice. We want to bring in the new programmer, but before we throw them into our gigantic project, we need to test them. At least that’s the main reason, there is more info on the official post (down our timeline). We want you here, JD2! but if you need to jump off for September and come back when we are back on FA in October, we understand. (= Thanks again for the honest feedback, we really appreciate it! -din

The change is fine with me, even if you change to bill up front (which it sounds like what you're doing). With that being said, if you're reviewing your interactions with your customer base, and this is one of them I agree, you may want to consider how many Patreons you gain/lose if and when you stop working on the game people have been paying you for, for the last few months, and start working on something else. Many people, myself included, have stopped contributing to a Patreon when they started working on more than one title at a time, regardless of the reasons. It can be a very clear signal of a Patreon group that begins to 'milk' their subscribers and/or has lost focus on the reason people subscribe to them, to begin with. Just saying to be careful of what your public perception is if that matters to you at all. Some may gladly subscribe to a dev, while others are subscribing to a specific game. Patreons who actually complete a game are very rare, hence people getting nervous or dropping a sub at the first sign of dev instability.
