Dear Patreon #9
Added 2023-08-23 16:51:25 +0000 UTCHello everybody!
It’s about time we had ourselves another newsletter so here I am, typing to you from my sofa in my flat, which is entirely too warm. I’ve had quite enough summer now, thank you, let’s pack it down and stow it away until next year.
Things I have been enjoying lately
Class of Cardinal Sin is an album by Covey, an artist I had never heard of before this week. It is very much up my street which is to say all the songs are absolute bops with extremely downbeat lyrics. Hooray!
Murdle is a book that contains 100 different murder mysteries for you to solve, each of them a neat little logic puzzle that you can work out with the information available and a bit of due diligence - no Jonathan Creek style leaps of logic required. Jonathan Creek did have that episode with the gorilla on acid though, which was pretty good. I’m only on puzzle 14 at the moment so I can’t say for certain this book doesn’t have one, but so far it’s yet to make an appearance. Good book anyway, can recommend
The Power is a British horror film set in the Royal Free Infirmary in the 1970s. A trainee nurse turns up for her first day and goodness me does she ever have a first day. Recommended more for the storytelling and the performances than for being especially scary, but if you’re into horror I’d definitely have a honk on this one. I can also thoroughly recommend you avoid Rob Zombie’s 31, which I also watched this week, on account of it being shit.
How’s Watson?
She has melted somewhat in the heat - I walked her a few hours ago and all she has done since is sleep. I can’t say I blame her. The walk was lovely though - most of the time I decide the route but lately I’ve been enjoying just asking her where she wants to go and then following her about. She does slow but big wags with her tail while she’s snootling about in the trees and what have you, it is very soothing - for both of us I think.
How’s Blood Bowl?
Haven’t played in yonks, aiming to fix that this weekend. I’ve played more board games than anything else recently, including The Beast which is a very good hidden movement game and also Sidereal Confluence, which is cube trading at its finest. A nice time all round
How’s work?
Good, ta! I really enjoyed streaming En Garde on Monday. We’ll be picking a new game for Press Any Chiodini before long, I’m excited to see what we end up playing.
That about does it from me - short and sweet. Thanks for reading!

Murdle sounds brilliant and I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of it yet. Will grab on this recommendation!

2023-08-24 17:46:35 +0000 UTCMy sister got me Murdle for my birthday in July! I've never been particularly good at those cross-reference grid type logic puzzles but it's such a gentle learning curve in the book, it's kind of changing my mind about them. I haven't found a lot of time to work on them though, I'm trying to do too many other things and also a dayjob with my time.

Took me about 8 hours for my first run and that was exploring a lot of optional dialogue and getting extra songs outside of the plot ones. Could be worth your time

2023-08-23 17:56:33 +0000 UTCHope you're staying hydrated! Thanks as always for the fun updates. Oh and thank you for Nate! Such a wonderful character that has already had me in tears. I am fully invested in learning more wisdom (?) and the intricacies of grave digging.

2023-08-23 17:24:37 +0000 UTCI enjoyed 31 in a way its absolute b movie hellbilly trash basically an x rated b movie. Its absolutely not house of 1000 corpses or devils rejects but it is the same zombie love it or hate it style. It perhaps helps that im a huuuge fan of both malcolm mcdowell and richard brake. Will definitely check out the power though. If you want a fun chill game for a stream I can recommend "chef life" which is a restaurant management/cooking sim.
