...And the question of actually separating the molten metal from slag. Do you just take the bucket out at the right moment? Or let it cool and knock (or cut) the slag layer off?

He wanted to make pure metals, so thermite can do that.... but it needs pure aluminum particles to start with. Where did he get his aluminum? As I understand it, aluminum was so valuable in the mid 1800's that when they wanted to put an impressive tip on the Washington Monument, they made it out of aluminum. Could you dig into those details in a future video?
