September Development Update
Added 2024-09-02 16:37:41 +0000 UTCHello Adventures!
Exciting times are ahead; in a few days (from the date of this post, at least), D&D Beyond will start allowing the 2024 rules to be available for those that pre-ordered.
What does this mean for DDB Importer?
The short answer is, I'm not entirely sure, but I have some thoughts...
Let's tackle a few bits you may want to know about.
Firstly, 2014 support/continued importing of the characters/spells/items, etc, as they are right now. In order of likelihood:
The proxy or DDB Importer module will need a small update to support it working with the 2014 content as it currently does. This might take a couple of days.
Things will keep working for the 2014 rules, with no changes required.
The proxy or DDB Importer will require a large update that might take a week or more.
Now, the 2024 rules will require an updated D&D System for Foundry (Version 4.0.x). I have been tracking the development of this, submitting bug fixes and rewriting large portions of the DDB Importer parser to support it. The version that will support 2024 rules has had a major overhaul to the core way data is stored on documents (i.e. items, spells, weapons, features etc.).
I don't expect this version of D&D is is going to be released until close to the release of the supporting Foundry 2024 Players Handbook module. This leaves the Importer in an interesting position, as it won't be able to import 2024 content well in the current version of the D&D System, and may import things like changed spells or abilities incorrectly.
The big changes in the 4.x version D&D system mean a lot of modules, especially automation modules are not going to work on day 1.
I shall be working to bring the Importer up to date with the new spell and character changes, but this will be an ongoing process, so please exercise caution if you are jumping straight in.
Enjoy the exciting month for D&D, and thanks for your continued support.

Comments
5.2.36. The changelog does note in big letters that 6.0.0 is 4.0 only and probably a breaking change ;)

2024-09-20 22:21:08 +0000 UTCI just updated all my modules and I see that I can no longer use DDB Importer as I'm locked at dnd5e 3.3.1 (until the rest of the "midiverse" can support dnd5e 4.0) what version of DDBI should I roll back and lock to, it wasn't clear to me on the github releases which version requires dnd5e 4.0. Thanks!

2024-09-20 20:43:36 +0000 UTCYes, same here. As noted, my bad and I look forward to getting it back. As he predicted it also now not working with Automated animations. so no JB2A and sound effects.

2024-09-15 22:15:14 +0000 UTCI'm looking forward to the D&D system 4.0.0 support, as I have updated it without realising it will break the imports. My bad, but hopefully my players will live with a few weeks of broken imports :D
